About Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology and a branch of computer science that studies and develops intelligent machines and software. Major AI researchers and textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents", where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success.

The field was founded on the claim that a central ability of humans, intelligence the sapience of Homo sapienscan be so precisely described that it can be simulated by a machine. This raises philosophical issues about the nature of the mind and the ethics of creating artificial beings, issues which have been addressed by myth, fiction and philosophy since antiquity. Artificial intelligence has been the subject of tremendous optimism. Today it has become an essential part of the technology industry and many of the most difficult problems in computer science

The central problems (or goals) of AI research include reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, communication, perception and the ability to move and manipulate objects.
There are an enormous number of tools used in AI, including versions of search and mathematical optimization, logic, methods based on probability and economics, and many others.

Advancements in Artificial intelligences application to a range of disciplines have led to the development of Artificial intelligence systems which have proved useful to marketers. The science behind these systems can be explained through neural networks and expert systems which are computer programs that process input and provide valuable output for marketers eg. In the area of social networking

Artificial intelligence systems stemming from Social computing technology can be applied to understand social networks on the Web. Data mining techniques can be used to analyze different types of social networks. This analysis helps a marketer to identify influential actors or nodes within networks, this information can then be applied to take a Societal marketing approach.

Example 1 Absolut Machines Dec 2007 Apr 2008

Following the commitment Absolut has to creativity, the brand decided to explore the intersection between art and cutting edge technology. Absolut invited teams of luminaries and visionaries to create one machine each that website visitors could interact with over the internet. Video link - http://kungsgrillen.se/machines/

Machine 1 Absolut Choir

Absolut Choir is a virtual choir consisting of 22 singing wooden characters (artificial systems) featuring individual linux computers controllable from the internet.

Machine 2 Absolut Quartet

Absolut Quartet is a 6 m wide and 3 m deep kinetic musical machine consisting of a Ballistic Marimba (balls are shot onto Marimba keys), a Wino (utilizing the effect where you put your finger against a wine glass) and a set of percussions). The 4th member of the Absolut Quartet is the website visitor.
