CHRIST IN YOU IS THE HOPE OF GLORY

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. (Hebrews. 2: 17)

Now as to Christ not having like passions with us: In the Scriptures all the way through He is like us, and with us according to the flesh. He is the seed of David according to the flesh. He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh. Dont go too far. He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh; not in the likeness of sinful mind. Do not drag His mind into it. His flesh was our flesh; but the mind was the mind of Christ Jesus. Therefore it is written; Let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus Phil. 2:5. . . . A.T. Jones, GCB 1895, p. 327

The Lord Jesus took the same flesh and blood, the same human nature, that we have, flesh just like our sinful flesh, and because of sin, and by the power of the Spirit of God through the divine mind that was in Him, "condemned sin in the flesh." Rom. 8:3. And therein is our deliverance (Rom. 7:25); therein is our victory. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." "A new heart will I give you, and a new Spirit will I put within you."

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin. (Hebrews. 4:14-15)

There is more in that word "touched" than simply that he is reached with the feeling of our weaknesses, and feels as we feel. He feels as we feel, that is true, but beyond that he is "touched;" that is, he is tenderly affected; his sympathy is stirred. He is touched to tenderness and affected to sympathy, and he helps us. This is what is said in the words, "touched with the feeling of our infirmities." Thank the Lord for such a Saviour! (A.T. Jones, GCB 1895, p. 180)

Satan has exhausted all the temptations that he knows, or possibly can know, and has exhausted all his power in the temptation too, what is he? In the presence of Christ, what is he?Powerless. And when he finds us in Christ, and then would reach us and harass us, what is he?Powerless. Praise and magnify the Lord! Let us rejoice in this; for in him we are victors; in him we are free; in him Satan is powerless toward us. Let us be thankful for that. In him we are complete. (A.T. Jones, GCB 1895, p. 183)

For even here unto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. (1Peter. 2:21-22)

Did Jesus ever find it difficult to do right? Every one will instantly say, No. But why? He was just as human as we are. He took flesh and blood the same as ours. "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." And the kind of flesh that He was made in this world was precisely such as was in this world. "In all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren." "In all things!" It does not say, In all things but one. There is no exception. He was made in all things like as we are. He was of Himself as weak as we are, for He said, "I can of mine own self do nothing." True, Christ partook of the divine nature and so do you if you are a child of promise and not of the flesh, for by the promises ye are partakers of the divine nature. There was nothing given to Him in this world and He had nothing in this world that is not freely given to you or that you may not have. (Lessons of Faith, p. 55 A T. Jones) And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. (John. 1:16).

He came to "seek and to save that which was lost." And in saving the lost, He came to the lost where we are. He put Himself among the lost. "He was numbered with the transgressors." He was "made to be sin." And from the standpoint of the weakness and infirmity of the lost, He trusted in God, that He would deliver Him and save Him. Laden with the sins of the world; and tempted in all points like as we are, He hoped in God and trusted in God to save Him from all those sins and to keep Him from sinning. Ps. 69:1- 21; 71:1-20; 22:1-22; 31:1-5.

And this is the faith of Jesus: this is the point where the faith of Jesus reaches lost, sinful man to help him. For thus it has been demonstrated to the very fulness of perfection, that there is no man in the wide world for whom there is not hope in God, no one so lost that he can not be saved by trusting God in this faith of Jesus. And this faith of Jesus, by which in the place of the lost, He hoped in God and trusted God for salvation from sin and power to keep from sinning--this victory of His it is that has brought to every man in the world divine faith by which every man can hope in God and trust in God and can find the power of God to deliver him from sin and to keep him from sinning. That faith which He exercised and by which He obtained the victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil--that faith is His free gift to every lost man in the world. And thus "this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith;" and this is the faith of which He is the Author and Finisher.

John exclaims, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." By faith the soul catches divine light from Jesus. We see matchless charms in his purity and humility, his selfdenial, his wonderful sacrifice to save fallen man. Contemplation of Christ leads man to place a proper estimate upon himself, for he realizes that the love of God has made him great. "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." The possibility of being like Jesus, whom he loves and adores, inspires within him that faith which works by love and purifies the heart. {RH, October 7, 1890 par. 14}

Conscious and Subconscious Mind

The Hebrew Sanctuary ritual was an illustration of Gods way of cleansing and restoring the human mind. As the tabernacle had two apartments, so the temple of the human mind has two divisions the conscious and subconscious levels. The daily service in the first apartment prefigured atonement for those sins which had become known to the mind Leviticus 4:14, 23, 28, 35; 6:1-6, 30.

The yearly service in the second apartment prefigured the complete cleansing of the worshipper. It illustrated a deeper experience. As the congregation gathered about the sanctuary in deep searching of heart and remembrance again (Heb. 10:3) of sins which they had committed, they afflicted their souls because of their sinfulness. As they did so the high priest made final atonement for them in the most holy place Lev. 16:17, 27, 30-31.The record states, for on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord Lev. 16:30.
