THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION!

PART TWO

(Revelation 14:7) By the first angel, men are called upon to "fear God, and give glory to Him" and to worship Him as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. In order to do this, they must obey His law. Says the wise man: "Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Ecclesiastes 12:13. Without obedience to His commandments no worship can be pleasing to God. "This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments." "He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination." 1 John 5:3; Proverbs 28:9. {GC 436.1}

The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed. The great Searcher of hearts knoweth every sin committed in secret by the workers of iniquity. These persons come to feel secure in their deceptions and, because of His longsuffering, say that the Lord seeth not, and then act as though He had forsaken the earth. But He will detect their hypocrisy and will open before others those sins which they were so careful to hide. -5 Testimonies, 211-212:0. (Jer. 17:9-10)

Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, are those "that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done" in the church. Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God--candidates for heaven. {Mar 240.6} (Eze. 9:4) The leaven of godliness has not entirely lost its power. At the time when the danger and depression of the church are greatest, the little company who are standing in the light will be sighing and crying for the abominations that are done in the land. But more especially will their prayers arise in behalf of the church because its members are doing after the manner of the world. -5 Testimonies, 209:9 (Jeremiah. 13:17).

When I study the Scriptures, I am alarmed for the Israel of God in these last days. They are exhorted to flee from idolatry. I fear that they are asleep, and so conformed to the world that it would be difficult to discern between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not. The distance is widening between Christ and His people, and lessening between them and the world. The marks of distinction between Christ's professed people and the world have almost disappeared. Like ancient Israel, they follow after the abominations of the nations around them. (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 277). (ROM. 12:2)

The day of Gods vengeance is just upon us. The seal of God will be placed upon the foreheads of those only who sigh and cry for the abominations done in the land. Those who link in sympathy with the world are eating and drinking with the drunken and will surely be destroyed with the workers of iniquity. The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. -5 Testimonies, 212:3. (Matt. 7:21-23)

If we continue to cherish sin, our prayers will be an abomination to the Lord. "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (RH, December 9, 1890)

Obedience to the commandments of men instead of to the commandments of God will be as abomination in the sight of God; for what God requires is essential to the highest good of his subjects, and is therefore essential for the glory of God. {ST, September 24, 1894 par. 4} (Matt. 15:3-9)

Not One in Twenty Prepared

It is a solemn statement that I make to the church, that not one in twenty whose names are registered upon the church books are prepared to close their earthly history, and would be as verily without God and without hope in the world as the common sinner. They are professedly serving God, but they are more earnestly serving mammon. This half-and-half work is a constant denying of Christ, rather than a confessing of Christ. So many have brought into the church their own unsubdued spirit, unrefined; their spiritual taste is perverted by their own immoral, debasing corruptions, symbolizing the world in spirit, in heart, in purpose, confirming themselves in lustful practices, and are full of deception through and through in their professed Christian life. Living as sinners, claiming to be Christians! Those who claim to be Christians and will confess Christ should come out from among them and touch not the unclean thing, and be separate. . . . {ChS 41.1} (2 Ti. 3:5)

Jesuits the modern Roman armies!

The organization of the order of Jesuits, in reality a papacy of the papacy, sent into the world a body of active workers, shrewd, well educated, and armed with a double-faced conscience, which enabled them to penetrate anywhere and assume any role. One of their most efficient methods of procedure was in the schools. They founded new schools in the very shadow of the Protestant institutions, and drew from their patronage; or when this was impossible, they entered Protestant schools under the guise of Protestant teachers. Everywhere they gained the children and the youth. {1905 SNH, SSP 198.2}

The Lord has a controversy with his professed people in these last days. In this controversy men in responsible positions will take a course directly opposite to that pursued by Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but they will try to keep it from others by burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministers will urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week. There are calamities on sea and land: and these calamities will increase, one disaster following close upon another; and the little band of conscientious Sabbathkeepers will be pointed out as the ones who are bringing the wrath of God upon the world by their disregard of Sunday. {RH, March 18, 1884 par. 8} (2 Thess. 2:3) (1 Ti. 4:1).

The mark of the beast will be urged upon us. Those who have step by step yielded to worldly demands and conformed to worldly customs will not find it a hard matter to yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. The contest is between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. In this time the gold will be separated from the dross in the church. True godliness will be clearly distinguished from the appearance and tinsel of it. Many a star that we have admired for its brilliancy will then go out in darkness. Chaff like a cloud will be borne away on the wind, even from places where we see only floors of rich wheat. All who assume the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christs righteousness, will appear in the shame of their own nakedness. {OFC 328.4} (Matt. 3:12)

A National Sunday Law Means National Apostasy

To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law....By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. . . . {LDE 132.4} As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy be a sign to us that the limit of God's forbearance is reached.--5T 451 (1885). {LDE 133.1} {Matt. 24:15} When the law of God has been made void and apostasy becomes a national sin, the Lord will work in behalf of His people.--3SM 388 (1889). {LDE 133.3} (Is. 60:1-3) The people of the United States have been a favored people, but when they restrict religious liberty, surrender Protestantism, and give countenance to popery, the measure of their guilt will be full, and "national apostasy" will be registered in the books of heaven.--RH May 2, 1893. {LDE 133.4}

In the last days, Spiritual Israel will instantly recognize the sign of the abomination of desolation and will flee to safety. In general, true Christians in the last days will progressively withdraw from the more densely populated areas and cities to more rural areas. They will not flee to the hills until the Great Tribulation begins. Up until the Close of Probation, Gods people will still have a mission to proclaim the Gospel to the undecided. Only after the Close of Probation when their mission is complete will they finally flee to the safety of remote places.

The time is not far distant, when, like the early disciples, we shall be forced to seek a refuge in desolate and solitary places. As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so the assumption of power on the part of our nation [the United States] in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath will be a warning to us. It will then be time to leave the large cities, preparatory to leaving the smaller ones for retired homes in secluded places among the mountains. {Mar 180.1}

National Apostasy Will Be Followed by National Ruin When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land, and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin.--7BC 977 (1888). {LDE 133.5}

Universal Sunday Legislation

As America, the land of religious liberty, shall unite with the papacy in forcing the conscience and compelling men to honor the false sabbath, the people of every country on the globe will be led to follow her example.--6T 18 (1900). {LDE 135.1} (REVELATION. 13:8) The Sabbath question is to be the issue in the great final conflict in which all the world will act a part.--6T 352 (1900).

The substitution of the false for the true is the last act in the drama. When this substitution becomes universal God will reveal Himself. When the laws of men are exalted above the laws of God, when the powers of this earth try to force men to keep the first day of the week, know that the time has come for God to work.--7BC 980 (1901). {LDE 135.4} The substitution of the laws of men for the law of God, the exaltation, by merely human authority, of Sunday in place of the Bible Sabbath, is the last act in the drama. When this substitution becomes universal God will reveal Himself. He will arise in His majesty to shake terribly the earth.--7T 141 (1902). {LDE 135.5}

HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE ALL ABOMINATIONS? HAVING A TRUE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH JESUS CHRIST OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS! Jesus said, And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent. John 17 : 3.

1. Jesus is our example in surrendering completely to God. John 5: 30 John 6 : 38; Philip.2: 111. 2. Jesus is our example in true Bible Baptism (baptism by immersion) Matthew 3. 3. Jesus is our example in keeping the Ten Commandments. John 15 : 10 Matt. 5 : 1728. 4. Jesus is our example in keeping holy the true seventh-day Sabbath and experiencing true happiness, freedom and sweetness in Sabbathkeeping. Luke 4 : 16; Mark 2 : 27, 28. 5. Jesus is our example in adhering fully to the scriptures and rejecting all unscriptural church traditions and false doctrines. Matt 15: 3, 9; John 4 : 24; Luke 24 : 27; 2 Tim. 3: 1517.

6. Jesus is our example in teaching and preaching about the end of the world, His second coming, and the bodily resurrection of the dead from their graves. Matt. 24; John 5 : 2429. 7. Jesus is our example in teaching, preaching and living the truth about Gods character and Christian character perfection. Matt. 5 : 4348; Matt 7 : 711; John 14 : 615; 1 John 1 : 5. He is our example. "So Christ in His humanity was dependent upon divine power. `I can of mine own self do nothing,' He declared."The Desire of Ages, pp. 674, 675. "All our good works are dependent on a power outside of ourselves."-Christ's Object Lessons, p. 160. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5)

God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, Christ taking our nature as our nature is in its sinfulness and degeneracy, and God dwelling constantly with Him and in Him in that nature in this God has demonstrated to all people forever that there is no soul in this world so laden with sins or so lost that God will not gladly dwell with him and in him to save him from it all and to lead him in the way of the righteousness of God.
