List general shop safety rules List the safety rules for the use of power tools
Each worker must assume responsibility for the safe operation of any equipment he is using. The worker must maintain and operate any machine in strict conformance with the manufacturers safety rules and guidelines and those established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Accident in the shop are caused by careless, preoccupied and overconfident people.
Check the operating devices and guards to insure proper condition, placement and adjustment. Check the clutch and brake for proper operation. During operation, check the machine for overloading Report any questionable operation or unusual action of the machine to the instructor, foreman or supervisor.

Each type of power operated machine has specially designed safety devices to protect both the operator and the machine. The machine operator must be completely familiar with and understand the operating procedure for the machine and the use of the special safety devices. Through trial and error, the operator must learn the numerous settings and adjustments of the machine for various types and gages of metal. Allowance formulas and other suggested rules are useful as a guide only. Practical allowances are determined on the machine itself.
