ROPE

What is Rope?
 It is basic in camp making, water raft, rescue
operation and evacuation of casualties in
situations created by disasters.
 Cordage= up to 20 feet long below
circumstances.
 Life line or Liner + 20 feet long above

Rope terminology
 The following are rope terminology
 Standing part :That part of rope taking the
load.
 Running Part : Free end of rope.
 Anchored : Fastened to some immovable
object.

prevent stands from unraveling.
 Bight in rope: Formed by bending rope,
keeping sides parallel.
 Round turn : Formed by looping running

work.
 The rescuer must familiarize
him with the type of ropes and
knots.
Importance of Rope
 Rope is one of the most important of a rescue unit.
 Rescue squads will use both steel wire and manila
ropes, and the efficiency with which rope can be used
will depend to a great extent on proper care and
maintenance.
 Ropes will be used to erect derricks and jibs.
 Lift materials and equipment.
 Rescue injured persons.
 To join equipment such as ladders, lower stretchers, and
for life lines.
 Rope used as safety factors.

Since the ropes are lifelines during
Emergencies, proper care should be taken
for its maintenance and durability.

 Fiber ropes should be kept as dry as


possible.
 Hard and stiff rope gives trouble some
times, twists should be removed by
stretching a rope throughout its length
before use.

bamboos.
 Permanent knots in a rope should be
avoided as it reduces the strength of the
rope.
 Ropes should not be bought in contact
with any chemicals or strong alkali.
