Lets Write!
Johnny Appleseed is the perfect nickname for a man who spent his life growing apples. As soon as John Chapman got to Pennsylvania, he began gathering apple seeds. He used these seeds to grow apple trees in Pennsylvania. He also shared apple seeds and trees with settlers. He continued sharing apple seeds and growing apple trees in Ohio and Indiana. He brought apple trees to every place that he lived. Johnny Appleseed is just the right nickname for someone who spread apples across the country because it shows how he changed his community and impacted the development of the landscape.
Your turn!
Go to page 68. Reread the message on Johnny Appleseeds gravestone. Write an opinion statement that states whether you agree with the message or disagree with the message. If you do, explain why. If do you do not, what message would you put instead, and why? Remember: -state an opinion -use linking words (because, and, also) to connect opinions -provide a concluding statement or sentence
