2-3 Jan 2012 Raise awareness among students & parents 2nd week of Jan Introduce & teach our students the thinking maps Starting from 3rd week of January

Use the thinking maps in our classes

Monitoring the usage of the thinking maps

Evaluating the impact on exam result 1st test

Review & reports on the usage of the thinking maps every week Starting from 1st week of February

Reward the students with best display through competitions to produce the best thinking maps

Rewarded as Thinking School in 3 years time

Display the evidence on the notice board & walls inside/outside of the classroom

Make sure there is evidence in the students exercise books/folders /notes and marked by the teacher

QUESTIONING SKILLS
Lesson starts with discussion using prompts to stimulate questioning. Students start asking questions out of curiosity or seeking clarifications. Students are given encouragement to ask as many questions as possible to build up confidence and critical thinking. Students in groups creating HOT questions and asking other groups.

WIN WINS FOR STUDENTS


A more lively and enjoyable lessons.. Students freely communicating with fellow classmates and having more confidence in asking clarifications and comments. A structured way of learning as students are exposed to specific basic thinking processes thus making them more accustomed to thinking on their own.

WIN WINS FOR TEACHERS


A different perspective towards teaching.. Teachers are more well prepared and highly motivated. Student-centered learning provides a more lively class and better teacher-student rapport.

PROBLEMS
Syllabus content is too enormous thus thinking maps usage is barely catching up with the yearly schedule. Too early to gauge the extent of student and teachers thinking abilities and questioning skill as this develops over time. Teachers are not confident that thinking maps will help their pupils in preparing for the exams.

Teachers are lacking in planning time due to workload and spur-of-the-moment directives. Drive teams ability to assist teachers as they are not expert at all subject matters. Pupils are not responsive to HOT question.
