GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN FAMILY REGARDING EDUCATION

This data is opposite to conventional wisdom that we hold in general about education of girl students!!! Why? Almost all of the respondents were pursuing postgraduation level education which is not possible without parents or guardians themselves being highly educated or active family support or family living in areas were education is valued or a combination of other factors . What lessons does it hold for us? Apart from previous understandings that we have about this issue like creating awareness in society and in family, one very interesting phenomenon comes up the effect of networks. It has the power to affect people way beyond rationality; after we are living beings with bounded rationality.

CANNOT SAY

With education, it appears that awareness level has increased among girl students but perhaps the access has not increased correspondingly. Why?

It has 3 aspects; efforts made by girl students, efforts on the part of government, the process involved. The solution would have multiple dimensions concerning these 3 aspects but one thing that would be quite important would be technology EX: IRCTC website/UID number.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Cannot look at any social issue in isolation Need to increasingly rely on Technology and Frontend Research happening in Science and Social Science.
