Who behind ML Group….?

The Group is founded by Sri Maddi Lakshmaiah a
Mechanical Engineer, after 15 years experience in tobacco
Industry in 1970 at Chilakaluripet, Guntur District, Andhra
Pradesh, India. He decided to cater to the needs of the
global cigarette manufacturers, by processing and
exporting Indian tobaccos. From these humble beginnings
in tobacco processing, ML Group has established a pre-
eminent position in tobacco processing &
exports,cigarettes exports and vegetable oils business.

Sensing that the future holds excellent prospects in the

infrastructure industry, ML Group has diversified into the field
of real estate and construction, and has successfully
completed many high rise projects in the metro cities of
Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.

The highly competitive tobacco market represented

tremendous growth potential to Mr. Maddi Lakshmaiah.
Foreseeing the demand for Quality Indian tobacco, a long
term strategy was formulated. Right from it’s inception, the
company adhered to international standards and made rapid
inroads into global tobacco markets.
A sophisticated threshing plant of international standards
was commissioned in 1976. Being the first in India, it created
a revolution in tobacco processing and led to a huge upsurge
in demand. This led to the commissioning of second modern
plant with threshers, redryers and other sophisticated
equipment for the processing of Quality tobaccos.

Maddi Lakshmaiah & Co. Ltd., the first Threshing and

Redrying Plant in the industry was set up by Mr.Maddi
Lakshmaiah, at Ganapavaram industrial area, Chilakaluripet,
32 KM away from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh in 4.4 hectares
of land in 1976.
The company threshes quality tobaccos with an installed
capacity of 120 tons per day with modern machinery
consisting of counter-flow classifiers, conditioning cylinders,
threshers, vibrators etc and Automated re-drying facility. Stem
Dryer with a capacity of 40 tons/day. 2 world class Automated
double ram pressing systems with 20 ton capacity, connected
to Auto Strapping machines.

The supporting infrastructure includes 11 ton FBC boiler and

country’s best Thermax 10 m³/ hr. Reverse Osmosis water
treatment plant. The rest of the machinery is from most
reputed manufacturers. Supported by a team of experts,
engineers, technicians and highly skilled workforce, the
company has forged ahead, setting standards that have
become benchmarks in the industry. The Company had an
human power capacity of consisting 804 employees.

The entire plant is catered with a power of 1100 KVA with

3000 HP connected load through 33 KV dedicated feeder from
Electricity Board grid and complete line of control panels &
switchgears from L & T, Crompton with a back-up of self
generation by 4.5 MW SKODA, Czech D.G.Sets.
The mammoth warehouses are built with natural wind power
ventilating system in 5,000 m² storage area for Raw material
storage, and 10,000 m² storage area for Finished goods
storage.
The company has annual production of 25 million Kgs. Used
mainly for Exports and balance for domestic sales. It ranks
among the largest threshing units in the country.

ML AGRO PRODUCTS LTD. is one of the largest Threshing

& Redrying plants in Indian Tobacco Industry built in 1984 at
Martur, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, set up by Sri
MADDI LAKSHMAIAH. Martur is centrally located between
ONGOLE and GUNTUR.
The Company owns 30 acres of land with 60:40 ratio of
afforestation and buildings occupied. The plant has got an
installed threshing capacity of 140 Tons per day, with 3
blending lines comprising of Tipping machines attached to a
Flow balancing Auto Feeder, Cardwell conditioning Cylinders,
Threshing devices connected to suitable counter flow
Classifiers in optimum proportion.

The technical support by the best experienced Engineering

personnel is an asset to the plant and they are available
round the clock in shifts as in house accommodation of 75
residential quarters are provided by the Company
management which enables them to pay immediate
attention as and when required.
The Company is a SRTP Compliance Factory in the
Industry and striving towards SA8000 Certification and
also for ISO 9000-2001 Certifications.

Started in 1976, CAPOL extracts and refines cotton seed oil.

Today it is a multiproduct company with equipment to
process all kinds of oil seeds. The plant has a storage
capacity of 2,100 tonnes for different types of oil.
Extreme care is taken to ensure that at every stage in the
process of production, right from selection of the raw material
to packaging the products, only the best is passed. This is
ensured by using some of the latest equipment, minimum
human intervention and rigorous application of quality control
processes to ensure that the final product conforms to all
appropriate standards. The By-Products of the process in the
form of Linters, Hulls and De-oiled cakes are in high demand in
many parts of the world.

These Cotton Linters are having good demand in

European and East Asian Countries. CAPOL produces
4,000 MT per annum.
Cottonseed Hulls are used as Roughage in Cattle Feed,
in manufacture of Furfural alcohol as it contains 12.5% to
13% of Furfural and also used in Petroleum Drilling
operations for drilled holes to avoid caving in. CAPOL
produces 20,000 MT of Hulls per annum.

ML Exports had operations of Exporting Tobacco processed in its

Ganapavaram Threashing Plant to its customers in CIS Countrys-UK,
EUROPE; African Countrys, CHINA, LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRS,
Middle East Countrys-BANGLADESH, NEPAL.
It was started its branch in RUSSIA & European Countrys in1968. It
was exporting tobacco daily from Ganapavaram Plant through
Containers to customers.

Role Of Logistics in ML Exports

Logistics is concerned with getting the products and services
where they are needed and when they are desired. It is
difficult to accomplish any marketing or manufacturing
without logistical support. It involves the integration of
information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material
handling, and packaging.
The operating responsibility of logistics is the geographical
repositioning of raw materials, work in process, and finished
inventories where required at the lowest cost possible. The
Company has been using only watereays for its
Transportation.

Rawmaterial&Finished Good WAREHOUSES.

Hosur Road, Bangalore – 560 068 (Opposite to M/s Novell
Software Solutions). The survey No. of this industrially
converted land is 48/3. Hongasandra Village, Begur Taluk,
Bangalore South, Bangalore 560 068.
► The total area of the land is about 10 acres and 27 guntas
land. It is facing the main road & on elevated location. It is
on National Highway No. 7 with well laid road, (4 lines) & with
Fly Over.

► Government is planning to further widening the existing roads

& adding one more fly over to improve the movement of
heavy traffic. Hosur, one of the Industrial Townships in
Tamilnadu, is a border town to Bangalore.
► The KSSP Complex has no. of warehouses & Administrative
buildings of various dimensions. (Admeasuring more than 2
lakh Sq. Ft. in total). All the warehouses are being occupied
by well known National & Multinational Companies on rental
basis.

• As a Logistics student this is my First big Export company
having international transactions.
• First of all we have to give a big aplod to Sri M. Lakshmaiah for
his wonderful managerial ability.
• ML Group has under wonderful manpower coordination.
• We would thank Mr. BABU RAO (Personnel Manager-ML&CO
Ltd.,) for giving opportunity to visit such a big group.
• I Think this is only the Major company which was Exporting
Tobacco & Cigarettes from Guntur District.
