rotary cutters to remove material from a workpiece advancing (or feeding) in a direction at an angle with the axis of the tool.It covers a wide variety of different operations and machines, on scales from small individual parts to large, heavy-duty gang milling operations. It is one of the most commonly used processes in industry and machine shops today for machining parts to precise sizes and shapes.
Used for general-purpose milling operation Most common milling machine Milling cutter mounted on spindle maybe horizontal for peripheral milling or vertical for face and end milling, boring & drilling operations Plain milling machines have three (3) axes of movement (X,Y,Z) Universal knee-type milling machine, the table can be swiveled on a horizontal plane
Characterized by a spindle mounted to a movable housing on the column It is to permit positioning the milling cutter forward or rearward in a horizontal plane. Two common type: universal milling machine & swivel cutter head ram-type milling machine.
Work table is mounted directly on the bed Bed replaces the knee and can move only longitudinally Not versatile as other types, but have high stiffness and typically used for high production work Spindles maybe horizontal or vertical and of duplex or triplex types (with two or three spindles) for the simultaneous machining of two or three workpiece surfaces
MACHINE Rapidly replaces conventional milling machines These machine tools are versatile and capable of milling, drilling, boring, and tapping with repetitive accuracy Profile milling machines have five axes of movement
CONCLUSION
After doing this presentation,we all know and
understanding about types, characteristics, parts and basic principal of milling machine. We can define what the suitable milling machine that we can uses for certain type of work on workpiece.
