WordPress is a free, Web-based software program that anyone can use to build and maintain a website or blog.

It was originally intended as an easy way to set up a blog. But, thanks to the efforts of a large open source community of WordPress programmers working to extend and improve its capabilities, WordPress has become much more than just a tool for bloggers.

Download and unzip the WordPress package from http://wordpress.org/download/

You will be needing a Web Server:


XAMPP

http://www.wampserver.com/en/

Copy the unzipped folder to the htdocs folders of XAMPP :


C:\xampp\htdocs Start xampp Control

Open your preferred browser:

Create your wordpress database


From the browser, type at the url address: http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin/

You will directed to the mysql database server:


Type in your preferred wordpress database name at Create new database textbox then click create.
*you may just simply type in wordpress as your database name for simplicity purposes:

You must received a confirmation message once the database has been created.

Type in the following at the url address: http://localhost/wordpress/ Or http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/

You will be directed to the page similar below: Please click Create a Configuration File button

Click Run the Install button

Dashboard - the behindthe-scenes control panel where you can publish content, manage comments, and change your settings. The dashboard is referred to as the back end, of your site, and only you (and any users youve assigned) can see it. The front end is what the outside world sees when they visit yourblog.wordpress.com.

Youll see something like this, with an autogenerated post titled Hello world! and a few widgets in the right sidebar.

If youre feeling overwhelmed by all the menus here, dont worry you only need to know your way around a few key parts of the dashboard to start publishing content and personalizing your blogs appearance.
