Who is Hernando Cortes?

He was an Spanish Explorer & Conquistador Nationality: Spanish Religion: Roman Catholic He actually full name is Hernn Corts de Monroy y Pizarro He was born in 1485 and he died in 1547 Place of birth and death: He was born in Medelln, Spain, He died in Castilleja de la Cuesta, Spain

His Early Life

He didnt came from a noble family

He study at the University of Salamanca

He was a soldier and a farmer before he sailed for Diego Velasquez

What did he do?

He joined the expedition to the west indies led by Nicolas de Ovando and Diego Velazquez He was a Spanish Conquistador who led an expedition which caused the fall of the Aztecs Empire. When Mexico we newly discover, he was allow to lead a small expedition to explore. In 1514 he settled at Cuba and becomes the ranchers He was the governor Cuba for 7 years

He went to Mexico and took control and renamed it to New Spain

He became the governor of New Spain which is Spains new territory With his new power his wealth increased and putting all his enemies down

Accomplishments
Corts taking over Mexico give Spain a new territory He brought large portions of mainland Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile in the early 16th century to Spain which increased Spain wealth at that time.

What made him famous?

He destroyed the Aztec Empire and conquered what is today Mexico. He conquered the Aztec empire, and the city of Tenochtitlan, and built a Mexico City, over Tenochtitlan.

He explored the northwestern part of Mexico and discovered the Baja California peninsula. He killed over 5 million Aztecs

Problems he faced
The Conquistador fought amongst each other. He had problems with the government of Spain He crashed on the shore of Mexico and had to fight with the natives

Problems he caused
He and his army cause the fall of the Aztecs He brought diseases that the Aztecs were not familiar with (smallpox), it killed half the population of the Aztecs.

How did it end?

In 1530 he went back to New Spain, he decided to live there and started exploring again. His exploration was not a successful as before. In 1533 he made his final expedition and discovers the Baja, California but then he return to Spain. He died in 1547 at the age of 62
