Health Reform and preparation for the final crisis

Health Reform As A Preparation For The Latter Rain

Psalm 67:1-2 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

The work of redemption is to restore man into the image of his Maker. It is to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created and to promote the development of body, mind and soul, that the divine purpose in his creation is to be realized. In order for this to be accomplished, every power of mind, soul and body must be understood and used aright.

But the plan of redemption had a yet broader and deeper purpose than the salvation of man. It was not for this alone that Christ came to

the earth; it was not merely that the inhabitants of this little world might regard the law of God as it should be regarded; but it was

to vindicate the character of God before the universe.

{PP 68.2} 3 of 3

The Saviour came to glorify the Father by the demonstration of His love; so the Spirit was to glorify Christ by revealing His grace to the world. The very image of God is to be reproduced in humanity. The honor of God, the honor of Christ, is involved in the perfection of the character of His people. Desire of ages page 671

The central theme of the Bible, the theme about which every other in the whole book clusters, is the redemption plan, the restoration in the human soul of the image of God. From the first intimation of hope in the sentence pronounced in Eden to that last glorious promise of the Revelation, 'They shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads' (Revelation 22:4),

the burden of every book and every passage of the Bible is the unfolding of this wondrous theme,--man's uplifting,--the power of God, 'which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.' 1 Corinthians 15:57. He who grasps this thought has before him an infinite field for study. He has the key that will unlock to him the whole treasure house of God's word. Education, 125-126.

1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:24-25

When Adam came from the Creator's hand, he bore, in his physical, mental, and spiritual nature, a likeness to his Maker. "God created man in His own image" (Genesis 1:27), and it was His purpose that the longer man lived the more fully he should reveal this {Ed 15.1}

All his faculties were capable of development; their capacity and vigor were continually to increase. Vast was the scope offered for their exercise, glorious the field opened to their research. The mysteries of the visible universe--the "wondrous works of Him which is perfect in knowledge" (Job 37:16)--invited man's study.{Ed 15.1}

Face-to-face, heart-to-heart communion with his Maker was his high privilege. Had he remained loyal to God, all this would have been his forever. {Ed 15.1}

Throughout eternal ages he would have continued to gain new treasures of knowledge, to discover fresh springs of happiness, and to obtain clearer and yet clearer conceptions of the wisdom, the power, and the love of God. {Ed 15.1}

More and more fully would he have fulfilled the object of his creation, more and more fully have reflected the Creator's glory. {Ed 15.1}

Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:24-25

Genesis 3;8-10 Genesis 3;15

But by disobedience this was forfeited. Through sin the divine likeness was marred, and wellnigh obliterated. Man's physical powers were weakened, his mental capacity was lessened, his spiritual vision dimmed. He had become subject to death. Yet the race was not left without hope. {Ed 15.2}

By infinite love and mercy the plan of salvation had been devised, and a life of probation was granted. To restore in man the image of his Maker, to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created, to promote the development of body, mind, and soul, that the divine purpose in his creation might be realized--this was to be the work of redemption. This is the object of education, the great object of life. {Ed 15.2}

In the Garden of Eden, sin had broken the face-to-face relationship between God and humanity. Sin forfeited our first parents unhindered communion with God. However, the Creator still desired to draw us to Himself and to enjoy a deep covenant relationship with fallen humanity, and He began this process right there in Eden.

Centuries later, in saving Israel out of Egypt and establishing the sanctuary and the sacrificial system, God again took the initiative in bringing humanity back into His presence.
Lessons From the Sanctuary, page 30

The sanctuary thus testifies of Gods unceasing desire to dwell among His people. This is Gods idea (Ps. 132:1314). His ultimate goal is relationship, and the sanctuary was His chosen means to do it. The sanctuary is the tangible evidence of Gods presence with His people on earth.

"The temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ark of his testament" (Revelation 11:19). The ark of God's testament is in the Holy of Holies, the second apartment of the sanctuary.

In the ministration of the earthly tabernacle, which served "unto the example and shadow of heavenly things," this apartment was opened only upon the great Day of Atonement for the cleansing of the sanctuary.

Therefore the announcement that the temple of God was opened in heaven and the ark of His testament was seen points to the opening of the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 as Christ entered there to perform the closing work of the atonement. {LHU 136.2}

Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort they must be conquerors in the battle with evil. While the investigative judgment is going forward in heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from the sanctuary, there is to be a special work of purification, of putting away of sin, among God's people upon earth. This work is more clearly presented in the messages of Revelation 14.GC, pg.425

"The finishing of this work... for the sanctuary was likewise the finishing of the work for the people... the taking away of all vestige of sin and the bringing in of everlasting righteousness--Christ fully formed--within each believer, God alone manifest in the flesh of each believer in Jesus... In the sanctuary itself, transgression could not be finished, an end of sins and reconciliation for iniquity could not be made... until all this had been accomplished in each person who had a part in the service of the sanctuary....

The Consecrated Way, pp. 113-19

Ellet J. Waggoner (1855 1916)

The sanctuary itself could not be cleansed so long as, by the confessions of the people and the intercessions of the priests, there was pouring into the sanctuary a stream of iniquities, transgressions, and sins... This stream must be stopped at its fountain in the hearts and lives of the worshipers, before the sanctuary itself could possibly be cleansed.

The Consecrated Way, pp. 113-19

Therefore the very first work in the cleansing of the sanctuary was the cleansing of the people. The sacrifice, the priesthood, and the ministry of Christ in the true sanctuary does take away sins forever, does make the comers thereunto perfect, does perfect "forever them that are sanctified." From the first intimation of hope in the sentence pronounced in Eden to that last glorious promise of the Revelation, 'They shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads' (Revelation 22:4),

The science of salvation is a grand theme, and all the glory of restoring the image of God in man is to be laid at the feet of the Eternal. {ST, January 15, 1894 par. 6}

The very essence of the gospel is restoration, and the Saviour would have us bid the sick, the hopeless, and the afflicted take hold upon His strength.(The Desire of Ages, 824, 825.) {Pr 231.1}

He (Christ) came to the world to display the glory of God, that man might be uplifted by its restoring power. God was manifested in Him (Christ) that He (Christ) might be manifested in them (Christ Followers) . {LHU 190.6}

We can see in the cross of Calvary what it has cost the Son of God to bring salvation to a fallen race. As the sacrifice in behalf of man was complete, so the restoration of man from the defilement of sin must be thorough and complete. {CE 112.2}

By infinite love and mercy the plan of salvation had been devised, and a life of probation was granted. To restore in man the image of his Maker, to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created, to promote the development of body, mind, and soul, that the divine purpose in his creation might be realized--this was to be the great work of redemption. {AG 246.3}

What does the Health Message/ Health Reform has to do with Restoring the Image of God in man ?

God requires all who believe the truth to make special persevering efforts to place themselves in the best possible condition of bodily health, for a solemn and important work is before us. Health of body and mind is required for this work; it is as essential to a healthy religious experience, to advancement in the Christian life, and progress in holiness, as is the hand or foot to the human body.-T., V. I, p. 619.

QUESTION:

Is the Health Message Salvational?

The light God has given on health reform is for our salvation and the salvation of the world{CD 461.1}

QUESTION:

Do Seventh-day Adventists have the most superior health message? Seventh-day Adventists are handling momentous truthsthe Lord gave us special light on health reformwe should be in advance of all other people{CD 24.2}

THE SEAL WILL BE PLACED ON THOSE WHO OBTAIN IT

Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It Is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost.
5 Testimonies, 214:2

Unready for the Loud Cry

The health reform, I was shown, is a part of the third angel's message, and is just as closely connected with it as are the arm and hand with the human body. I saw that we as a people must make an advance move in this great work.

Does the way how I eat and the way how I treat my body has something to do in whether I receive the mark of the beast or not ?

Isiah 7:14-15 Jesus Had to eat a certain diet to refuse evil ,how much more should our diet be in harmony with heavens diet

What is Milk, butter and Honey Numbers 13:23-24,27, Deuteronomy 8:8 (Fruits, Vegetables, Grains and Nuts)

Fruits, Vegetables, Grains and Nuts (1905) M.H. 296 471. Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect, that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet.

Fruits, Vegetables, Grains and Nuts

472. In grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts are to be found all the food elements that we need. If we will come to the Lord in simplicity of mind, He will teach us how to prepare wholesome food free from the taint of flesh meat.

Fruits, Vegetables, Grains and Nuts

Again and again I have been shown that God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design,that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth.[Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, 119] Counsels on Health, 450, 1890

Unready for the Loud Cry

Ministers and people must act in concert. God's people are not prepared for the loud cry of the third angel. They have a work to do for themselves which they should not leave for God to do for them. He has left this work for them to do. It is an individual work; one cannot do it for another.

Unready for the Loud Cry

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." Gluttony is the prevailing sin of this age.

Unready for the Loud Cry

Lustful appetite makes slaves of men and women, and beclouds their intellects and stupefies their moral sensibilities to such a degree that the sacred, elevated truths of God's word are not appreciated. The lower propensities have ruled men and women. {CD 32.2}

In order to be fitted for translation, the people of God must know themselves. They must understand in regard to their own physical frames, that they may be able with the psalmist to exclaim, "I will praise Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." They should ever have the appetite in subjection to the moral and intellectual organs. The body should be servant to the mind, and not the mind to the body. {CD 33.1}

The Spirit of God cannot come to our help, and assist us in perfecting Christian characters while we are indulging our appetites to the injury of health, and while the pride of life controls. CD 57

All who would perfect holiness in the fear of God must learn the lessons of temperance and self control. The appetites and passions must be held in subjection to the higher powers of the mind. This selfdiscipline is essential to that mental strength and spiritual insight which will enable us to understand and to practice the sacred truths of Gods word. For this reason temperance fi nds its place in the work of preparation for Christs second coming. DA 101

1 Corinthians 9:25 2 Peter 1:3-10

The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character.

The continual transgression of man for six thousand years has brought sickness, pain, and death as its fruits. And as we near the close of time, Satans temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome. 3T 491, 492

Preparation for the Refreshing

God requires His people to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord. All those who are indifferent and excuse themselves from this work, waiting for the Lord to do for them that which He requires them to do for themselves, will be found wanting when the meek of the earth, who have wrought His judgments, are hid in the day of the Lord's anger. {CD 33.2}

{CD 33.3}

I was shown that if God's people make no efforts on their part, but wait for the refreshing to come upon them and remove their wrongs and correct their errors; if they depend upon that to cleanse them from filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and fit them to engage in the loud cry of the third angel, they will be found wanting.

The refreshing or power of God comes only on those who have prepared themselves for it by doing the work which God bids them, namely, cleansing themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. {CD 33.3}

Appeals to the Hesitant

(R. & H., May 27, 1902) C. H. 578,

579 37. The failure to follow sound

principles has marred the history of God's people. There has been a continual backsliding in health reform, and as a result God is dishonored by a great lack of spirituality. Barriers have been erected which would never have been seen had God's people walked in the light. {CD 33.4}

Appeals to the Hesitant

Shall we who have had such great opportunities allow the people of the world to go in advance of us in health reform? Shall we cheapen our minds and abuse our talents by wrong eating? Shall we transgress God's holy law by following selfish practices? Shall our inconsistency become a byword? Shall we live such unchristianlike lives that the Saviour will be ashamed to call us brethren? {CD 33.5}

The health reform is a branch of the special work of God for the benefit of His people. . . . {CD 25.4} I saw that the reason why God did not hear the prayers of His servants for the sick among us more fully was, that He could not be glorified in so doing while they were violating the laws of health. And I also saw that He designed the health reform and Health Institute to prepare the way for the prayer of faith to be fully answered. Faith and good works should go hand in hand in relieving the afflicted among us, and in fitting them to glorify God here, and to be saved at the coming of Christ. {CD 25.5}

Many have expected that God would keep them from sickness merely because they have asked Him to do so. But God did not regard their prayers, because their faith was not made perfect by works. God will not work a miracle to keep those from sickness who have no care for themselves, but are continually violating the laws of health, and make no efforts to prevent disease. {CD 26.1}

When we do all we can on our part to have health, then may we expect that the blessed results will follow, and we can ask God in faith to bless our efforts for the preservation of health. He will then answer our prayer, if His name can be glorified thereby. But let all understand that they have a work to do. God will not work in a miraculous manner to preserve the health of persons who are taking a sure course to make themselves sick, by their careless inattention to the laws of health. {CD 26.1}

Those who will gratify their appetite, and then suffer because of their intemperance, and take drugs to relieve them, may be assured that God will not interpose to save health and life which is so recklessly periled. The cause has produced the effect.

Many, as their last resort, follow the directions in the word of God, and request the prayers of the elders of the church for their restoration to health. God does not see fit to answer prayers offered in behalf of such, for He knows that if they should be restored to health, they would again sacrifice it upon the altar of unhealthy appetite.

R. & H., Feb. 10, 1910 38. It is of great importance that individually we act well our part, and have an intelligent understanding of what we should eat and drink, and how we should live to preserve health. All are being proved to see whether they will accept the principles of health reform or follow a course of self-indulgence. {CD 34.3}

Let no one think that he can do as he pleases in the matter of diet. But before all who sit at the table with you, let it appear that you follow principle in the matter of eating, as in all other matters, that the glory of God may be revealed. You cannot afford to do otherwise; for you have a character to form for the future immortal life. Great responsibilities rest upon every human soul. Let us comprehend these responsibilities, and bear them nobly in the name of the Lord. {CD 34.4}

To every one who is tempted to indulge appetite I would say, Yield not to temptation, but confine yourself to the use of wholesome foods. You can train yourself to enjoy a healthful diet. The Lord helps those who seek to help themselves; but when men will not take special pains to follow out the mind and will of God, how can He work with them? Let us act our part, working out our salvation with fear and trembling,--with fear and trembling lest we make mistakes in the treatment of our bodies, which, before God, we are under obligation to keep in the most healthy condition possible. {CD 35.1}

God is raising up a class to give the loud cry of the third angel's message. . . . It is Satan's object now to get up new theories to divert the mind from the true work and genuine message for this time. He stirs up minds to give false interpretation of Scripture, a spurious loud cry, that the real message may not have its effect when it does come. This is one of the greatest evidences that the loud cry will soon be heard and the earth will be lightened with the glory of God.--Letter 20, 1884. {3SM 410.1}

(1867) 1T 546 45. Said the angel, "Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul." You have stumbled at the health reform. It appears to you to be a needless appendix to the truth. It is not so; it is a part of the truth. Here is a work before you which will come closer and be more trying than anything which has yet been brought to bear upon you. While you hesitate and stand back, failing to lay hold upon the blessing which it is your privilege to receive, you suffer loss. You are stumbling over the very blessing which heaven has placed in your path to make progress less difficult. Satan presents this before you in the most objectionable light, that you may combat that which would prove the greatest benefit to you, which would be for your physical and spiritual health.

God cannot let his Holy Spirit rest upon those who, while they know how they should eat for health, persist in a course that will enfeeble mind and body. {GosHealth, April 1, 1898 par. 14}

Duty Self Development

It is not possible for us to glorify God while living in violation of the laws of life.

A diseased body and disordered intellect, because of continual indulgence in hurtful lust, make sanctification of the body and spirit impossible.

Leviticus 1:3 Malachi 1 :13-14 Romans 12:1

The brain nerves which communicate with the entire system are the only medium through which Heaven can communicate to man and affect his inmost life. Whatever disturbs the circulation of the electric currents in the nervous system lessens the strength of the vital powers, and the result is a deadening of the sensibilities of the mind. {CH/ Counsels on Health 616.2

Overeating prevents the free flow of thought and words, and that intensity of feeling which is so necessary in order to impress the truth upon the heart of the hearer.--T., V. III, p. 310. {HL 41.1}

Excessive eating of even the best of food will produce a morbid condition of the moral feelings. . . . Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action. Indulgence of appetite strengthens the animal propensities, giving them the ascendency over the mental and spiritual powers. . . . Everything that conflicts with natural law creates a diseased condition of the soul.--R. and H., 1881, No. 4. {HL 41.2}

Temperance eat in dew season, for strength and not for drunkenness! Ecclesiastes 10:17;

Proverbs 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

Irregularity in eating and drinking, and improper dressing, deprave the mind and corrupt the heart, and bring the noble attributes of the soul in slavery to the animal passions.--H. R. {HL 41.3}

Over-eating Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Between the mind and the body there is a mysterious and wonderful relation. They react upon each other. To keep the body in a healthy condition to develop its strength, that every part of the living machinery may act harmoniously, should be the first study of our life. To neglect the body is to neglect the mind. {3T 485.3}

M.H. 271 136. In order to have good health, we must have good blood; for the blood is the current of life. It repairs waste, and nourishes the body. When supplied with the proper food elements and when cleansed and vitalized by contact with pure air, it carries life and vigor to every part of the system. The more perfect the circulation, the better will this work be accomplished.

If those who profess to be Christians desire to solve the questions so perplexing to them,-why their minds are so dull, why their religious aspirations are so feeble,--they need not, in many instances, go farther than the table; here is cause enough, if there were no other.--C. THERE COMES A TIME WHEN WE MUST STOP BEING SICK!!

Those whose moral faculties are beclouded by disease, are not the ones rightly to represent the Christian life, to show forth the joys of salvation or the beauties of holiness. The children of God cannot glorify him with sickly bodies or dwarfed minds. Those who indulge in any species of intemperance, either in eating or drinking, waste their physical energies and weaken moral power.-- C. T., p. 53. {HL 55.2}

Sickness, suffering, and death are works of an antagonistic power. Satan is the destroyer; God is the restorer.

(PATH 74/ MH 94)

Disease Definition Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from the violation of the laws of health.
(PATH p. 37)

What are the Laws of Health

Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power these are the true remedies.
(MH p. 44)

The first thing to be done is to ascertain the true character of the sickness and then go to work intelligently to remove the cause. (PATH p. 74 / MH p. 94)
If the harmonious working of the system has become unbalanced by overwork, overeating, or other irregularities, do not endeavor to adjust the difficulties by adding a burden of poisonous medicines.
(PATH p. 74 / MH p. 94)

What should one do if they get sick?

In the case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained, unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected, then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system. (MH p. 44)

Counsels and Cautions

The use of natural remedies requires an amount of care and effort that many are not willing to give. Nature's process of healing and upbuilding is gradual, and to the impatient it seems slow. The surrender of hurtful indulgences requires sacrifice. (MH p. 44)

Counsels and Cautions

But in the end it will be found that nature, untrammeled, does her work wisely and

well. Those who persevere in obedience

to her laws will reap the reward in health

of body and health of mind. (MH p. 44)

Do Drugs Cure Disease?

If the harmonious working of the system

has become unbalanced by overwork,

overeating or other irregularities do not endeavor to adjust the difficulties by adding a burden of poisonous medicines.
(PATH p. 74 / MH p. 94)

Too little attention is generally given to the preservation of health. It is far better to prevent disease than to know how to treat it when contracted. (MH p. 128) By the use of poisonous drugs, many bring upon themselves lifelong illness, and many lives are lost

that might be saved by the use of natural methods

of healing. (MH p. 128)

Drugs

never

cure

disease;

they only change its form and location. . . . When drugs are introduced into the

system, for a time they seem to have a beneficial effect. A change may take place, but the disease is not cured. It will manifest itself in some other form. . . .

The disease which the drug was given to cure

may disappear, but only to reappear in a new

form, such as skin diseases, ulcers, painful,

diseased joints, and sometimes in a more

dangerous and deadly form. . . . Nature keeps

struggling, and the patient suffers with different

ailments, until there is a sudden breaking down

in her efforts, and death follows. (HL 243.3)

how can they weigh the evidences of truth, and comprehend the requirements of God? they cannot appreciate the value of the atonement or the exalted character of the work of God, nor delight in the study of his word. Perfection and the spirit of holiness cannot be attained with diseased bodies and minds. -- T., V. I, p. 554. {HL 55.5}

As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion. . . . The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, then they would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character. . . . As we near the close of time, Satan's temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome.--T., V. III, p. 491. {HL 74.5}

In refusing the warning of the first angel, they rejected the means which Heaven had provided for their restoration. GC 381

Psalm 67;2

The Holy Spirit never has, and never will in the future, divorce the medical missionary work from the gospel ministry. They can not be divorced. Bound up with Jesus Christ, the ministry of the word and the healing of the sick are one. {SpTB07 64.1}

The light that God has given in medical missionary lines will not cause His people to be regarded as inferior in scientific medical knowledge, but

Counsels to Parents, Teachers and Students , 467

Medical missionary work is the right hand of the gospel. It is necessary to the advancement of the cause of God. As through it men and women are led to see the importance of right habits of living, the saving power of the truth will be made known.

Medical Missionary-Spiritual Work

The work of the true medical missionary is largely A Spiritual work. Is includes prayer & the laying on of hands,he therefore should be as sacredly set apart for his work as is the minister of the gospel. CH 540

As we near the close of time, we

must rise higher and still higher upon

the question of health reform and

Christian temperance, presenting it in a more positive and decided manner.
Counsels on Diet and Foods 443

The medical missionary work is as the right arm to the third angels message. 6T 229
The gospel of health is to be firmly linked with the ministry of the word. It is the Lords design that the restoring influence of health reform shall be a part of the last great effort to proclaim the Gospel Message. CDF 75

By the ministry of the work the gospel is preached; by the medical missionary work the gospel is practiced. The gospel is bound up with medical missionary work. Neither is to stand alone, bound up in itself. The workers in each are to labor unselfishly and unitedly, striving to save sinners. 13MR 303
Genuine medical missionary work is the gospel practiced. 8T 168

My brethren, the Lord calls for unity, for oneness. We are to be one in the faith. I want to tell you that when the gospel ministers and the medical missionary workers are not united,
there is placed on our churches the

worst evil that can placed there.

MM 241

Purpose of Health Reform and MMW We should ever remember that the object of the medical missionary work is to point sin-sick men and women to the Man of Calvary, who take away the sin of the world. By beholding Him, they will be changed into His likeness. MH 144 The work of health reform is the Lords means for lessening suffering in the world and for purifying His church. CDF 77

The Lord has a special work to be done. This work is not to be done in accordance with man's planning. Medical missionary work is to be closely connected with the ministry of the Word, bound up with the third angel's message, the last message of mercy and warning to be given to a guilty world. The work of health reform is to be bound up with the gospel. These cannot be separated; for God has united them. When these parts of the work are carried forward on correct lines, the third angel's message will be given in accordance with God's purpose. 5MR 134.3

The Purpose of the 3 angels message

God's purpose in giving the third angel's message to the world is to prepare a people to stand true to Him during the investigative judgment. This is the purpose for which we establish and maintain our publishing houses, our schools, our sanitariums, hygienic restaurants, treatment rooms, and food factories. This is our purpose in carrying forward every line of work in the cause.

Noah, Daniel, and Job

The "time of trouble, such as never was," is soon to open upon us; and we shall need an experience which we do not now possess and which many are too indolent to obtain. It is often the case that trouble is greater in anticipation than in reality; but this is not true of the crisis before us. The most vivid presentation cannot reach the magnitude of the ordeal. In that time of trial, every soul must stand for himself before God. "Though Noah, Daniel, and Job" were in the land, "as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness." Noah-First Angels Message

The people who lived before the flood ate animal food and gratified their lusts until their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood Then the third dreadful curse rested upon the earthhe inhabitants of the Old World were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh-meats, although God had given them no permission to eat animal food. They ate and drank to excess, and their depraved appetites knew no bounds. They gave themselves up to abominable idolatry. TESTIMONY STUDIES ON DIET AND FOODS, PAGE 62

They became violent, and ferocious, and so corrupt that God could bear with them no longer. Their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood. As men multiplied upon the face of the earth after the flood, they forgot God, and corrupted their ways before Him. Intemperance in every form increased to a great extent. TESTIMONY STUDIES ON DIET AND FOODS, PAGE 62

Our habits of eating and drinking show whether we are of the world or among the number whom the Lord by His mighty cleaver of truth has separated from the world. These are His peculiar people, zealous of good works. . . . God has spoken in the history of the children of Israel, from whom for their good He sought to withhold a flesh diet (CD 379; 6T 372).

God has called His church in this day, as He called ancient Israel, to stand as a light in the earth. By the mighty cleaver of truth, the messages of the first, second, and third angels, He has separated them from the churches and from the world to bring them into a sacred nearness to Himself. He has made them the depositaries of His law and has committed to them the great truths of prophecy for this time. Like the holy oracles committed to ancient Israel, these are a sacred trust to be communicated to the world. The three angels of Revelation 14 5T 455.2

When Daniel was in Babylon, he was beset with temptations of which we have never dreamed, and he realized that he must keep his body under. He purposed in his heart that he would not drink of the kings wine or eat of his dainties. He knew that in order to come off a victor, he must have clear mental perceptions, that he might discern between right and wrong. RH April 2, 1889, par. 7

Job- Third Angels Message

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. Job 1:2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. Job 1:4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

James 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Our habits of eating and drinking show whether we are of the world or among the number that the Lord by his mighty cleaver of truth has separated from the world.--U. T., Aug. 25, 1897. {HL 75.2}

Christ began this work of redemption by reforming the physical habits of man.--T., V. III, p. 486. {HL 75.3}

Luk 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. Luk 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

A religious life can be more successfully attained and maintained if meat is discarded; for this diet stimulates into intense activity the lustful propensities, and enfeebles the moral and spiritual nature.--U. T., Nov. 5, 1896. {HL 102.4}

SUCCESS

Perhaps no question has ever come up among us which has caused such development of character as has the dress reform.-- T., V. IV, p. 636. {HL 120.1}

Simplicity of dress will make a sensible woman appear to the best advantage. We judge of a person's character by the style of dress worn. Gaudy apparel displays vanity and weakness. A modest, godly woman will dress modestly. A refined taste, a cultivated mind, will be revealed in the choice of simple and appropriate attire.-- T., V. IV, p. 643. {HL 120.2}

Fashion and false modesty look upon these girls who have their limbs clad in reference to comfort, modesty, and health, with horror, but smile upon those whose dresses are quite as short, and whose limbs are uncomfortably, immodestly, and unhealthfully exposed.

Here come the cross and the reproach, for simply doing right, in the face of the tyrant-Fashion. God help us to have the moral courage to do right, and to labor patiently and humbly in the great cause of reform. {HR, September 1, 1868 par. 13}

The Spirit of God cannot come to our help, and assist us in perfecting Christian characters, while we are indulging our appetites to the injury of health, and while the pride of life controls. {CD 57.4}

All who are partakers of the divine nature will escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. It is impossible for those who indulge the appetite to attain to Christian perfection. {CD 57.5}

It is impossible for those who give the reins to appetite to attain to Christian perfection. The moral sensibilities of your children cannot be easily aroused, unless you are careful in the selection of their food. Many a mother sets a table that is a snare to her family. Flesh meats, butter, cheese, rich pastry, spiced foods, and condiments are freely partaken of by both old and young. These things do their work in deranging the stomach, exciting the nerves, and enfeebling the intellect. The blood-making organs cannot convert such things into good blood. The grease cooked in the food renders it difficult of digestion. The effect of cheese is deleterious. Fine-flour bread does not impart to the system the nourishment that is to be found in unbolted-wheat bread. Its common use will not keep the system in the best condition. Spices at first irritate the tender coating of the stomach, but finally destroy the natural sensitiveness of this delicate membrane. The blood becomes fevered, the animal propensities are aroused, while the moral and intellectual powers are weakened, and become servants to the baser passions. The mother should study to set a simple yet nutritious diet before her family. {CD 236.2}

MORAL FITNESS
You need clear, energetic minds, in order to appreciate the exalted character of the truth, to value the atonement, and to place the right estimate upon eternal things. If you pursue a wrong course, and indulge in wrong habits of eating, and thereby weaken the intellectual powers, you will not place that high estimate upon salvation and eternal life which will inspire you to conform your life to the life of Christ; you will not make those earnest, self-sacrificing efforts for entire conformity to the will of God, which His word requires and which are necessary to give you a moral fitness for the finishing touch of immortality. {CD 47.1}

even temper.

Erroneous eating and drinking result in erroneous thinking and acting.--9T 160 (1909). {2MCP 392.2}

High Appreciation of Atonement Blunted.--When we pursue a course to lessen mental and physical vigor--in eating, drinking, or in any of our habits--we dishonor God, for we rob Him of the service He claims of us.

When we indulge appetite at the expense of health or when we indulge habits which lessen our vitality and mental vigor, we cannot have a high appreciation of the atonement and a right estimate of eternal things.

When our minds are beclouded and partially paralyzed by disease, we are easily overcome by the temptations of Satan.--Lt 27, 1872. {2MCP 392.3}

FAR AHEAD
The peculiar people whom God is purifying unto himself, to be translated to heaven without seeing death, should not be behind others in good works In their efforts to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, they should be as far ahead of any other class of people on the earth as their profession is more exalted than that of others
