Solid Waste management technologies

Solid waste management in Mumbai present scenario

Sustianable waste management An Overview

Thermal Process: high temperature, organic & inorganic Wastes, useful byproducts for generating energy. Biological Process: organic wastes, useful byproducts Physical Processes: waste converted to high calorie value fuel pellets through physical processes.

Anaerobic Digestion(Biological Process)

Anaerobic Digestion The biodegradable waste segregated form the municipal waste is fed into in anaerobic containers/plants to be composted. Biogas and fertilisers are the useful by products generated. Biogas can be utilized to generate energy. It can be worked out on different scales from household to district level. Bio reactor, is a recent advance to the system where, the decomposition time is reduced considerably reduced with the use of controlled fluids, isolation etc

Pyrolysis
It is the process of decomposition of waste without oxygen at high temperatures (400-700C) producing useful byproducts. It can be used for both organic and inorganic solid waste. Syngas is the main byproduct which can be processed and used to generate energy. It can be set up in different scales.

Refuse dervied Fuel (RDF)

Inorganic waste with high calorific value is fed into the plant at high temperatures. The resultant slag is further made in to fuel pellets which has high calorific value and then used as a fuel for energy generation process. cement kilns, fluidised bed reactor and can be installed at places where there are energy needs.

Construction waste management

Segregation Metals plastic wood paper sent to recycling facilities Concrete brick gravel and stones are crushed to produce aggregates that can be used again for construction activities.
