• Training is the teaching of the vocational
or the practical and relates to specific
useful skills….It forms the core of
apprenticeships. Today is often referred to
as professional development, activity
leading to skilled behaviour

• Training involves a combination of skills
development, knowledge transfer,
development and support of
understanding and sustained attitude
change…
Training or Learning?
• Learning is the process of acquiring
knowledge or skill through study,
experience or teaching. It is a process that
depends on experience and leads to long-
term changes in behaviour potential.
• Behaviour potential describes the possible
behaviour of an individual (not actual
behaviour) in a given situation in order to
achieve a goal
Experience?
• …the accumulated residue of observations,
conclusions and applicable acquired skills,
which when focused and directed towards a
plan, result in identifiable and predictable
outcomes…
Objectives
• Our departmental objective is the
continued cultivation of an environment
which fosters and promotes the acquisition
of, and the application of new skills, new
tools and new methodologies – all with the
objective of reducing work-stress and
improving productivity and efficiency
The roadmap….
• In order to get from here, to there, a map is
required….it is currently, ‘under construction.’
• The discernible junctions in a journey are
often referred to as ‘waypoints’….
• Today, is a ‘waypoint’…..others will follow
Compass…direction…navigation
• A fundamental waypoint is the acknowledgement
that learning, and skills, need to be cumulative,
evolutionary
• A few of the keystone ‘to be learned values’ for
our group are:
– SOVs
– Spexx
– PowerPoint
– MS Project
– Excel
• The fundamentals will be our first concentration
• Thus SOVs training will commence, as a regular
programme, on Monday next. Carlos Reyes has kindly
agreed to lead the initial SOV training efforts, during
lunch hours Mondays and Wednesdays……sign-up
sheets will be at Blanca’s workstation….session sizes
should be kept to app 8 participants….and all staff are
strongly encouraged to attend these sessions
• Completion of course sessions in SOVs, PowerPoint and
other key tools will provide a ‘threshold’ opportunity for
those who completed same, to attend classes/courses in
SketchUp, Photoshop, and other interesting toolset
sessions.
• Summary:
Our goal is to assist all of you in your professional
development within our company – it is a mutually
beneficial exchange programme…..the department will
become stronger, better able to produce a wider range of
results internally, and you – all of you, will grow and
develop along unique and challenging design paths….
