Dynamic Sparing is mandatory on all DMX-4 configurations.
Increases protection of all volumes from loss of data.
Spare activates without interruption prior to loss of access to a potentially
failing volume.
Spare copy is identical to the original copy.
Spare resynchronizes to new disk device after repair of the defective device is
complete.

Symmetrix DMX-4 Data Vaulting

Data Vaulting
As cache size, disk size, and power requirements continue to increase,
the time required to de-stage data also increases.
Power Vault was designed to limit the time necessary to destage data and
power off the Symmetrix system while on battery power.
Power vault will de-stage Global Memory to specific Vault Devices on
power down. Then on power up, restore the image to Global Memory.
Its important to note that Vaulting and Mirrored Memory are independent
features. The same region of memory may be saved twice because of
contention or other issues.
