The Spiritual
1. The Bio System Challenge
• preserve natural habitats on the village
land
• produce food, wood, and other bio-
resources on site
• recycle all the waste produced on the
site
• avoid adverse environmental impacts
• Human Co -op
2. The Built – Environment
Challenge
• Ecologically friendly materials
• Wind turbines
• handle solid, liquid, and gaseous wastes
from buildings in an ecologically friendly
manner
• Vehicle Co -op
3. The Economic System
Challenge
• Sustainable economic activities
• Pattern of ownership between public and
private entity
• Low cost of living
• Community Business
• Local Jobs
4. The Governance

• Forming Committee

The challenge of the project lies within the
backdrop on according to what Sue
Riddlestone, director of environment charity
BioRegional, pointed out: “There is no time to
waste when it comes to tackling climate
change. The building industry accounts for
around 16% of the UK’s carbon emissions and
cuts need to be made quickly and cost
effectively. That’s why we have made all of our
research reports free to download, and what
better time is there to do this that when the
whole world is taking action!”

lifestyle among the local residents
by not only providing efficient
building technologies, but also by
providing integrated oportunities
such as live/work environment to
have less pressure on long
commute.
Experimental arrangements to
encourage carfree blocks were
done by allowing perimeter parking
made pedestrian friendly car-free
blocks. However the combination
of one parking space per dwelling,
perpendicular parking, and back-
of-curb sidewalks minimized
pedestrian friendliness.
PASSIVE HEATING &
LIGHTING
-Alternative use of energy, to aim for zero net carbon
emissions through provision of CHP Systems,
photovoltaic panels and wind driven natural
ventilation
-Reduction of suitable water consumption by 30 CAR SHARING
percent PROGRAMME
-15 percent of construction materials reused or
recycled
-50 percent reduction in fossil-fuel consumption from
private car use compared in comparison with
conventional developments in 10 years
SOLAR HEATING &
-Reduction of heat consumption by 90 percent WIND VENTS
-Within 10 years, power 40 electric vehicles using
photovoltaic panels
RECYCLING
The project appears to support elements
to reach eco-friendly and social

sustainability. For instance community
facilities such as playing fields and a SQUARE
village square are provided within easy
walking distance.
