documentary covers a range of themes
including religious aspects (atan
worship!, murder, music industry and
loss of parent control. These themes
are clearly shown through the use of
mise"en"scene.
#arrative tructure: The narrative structure
has a beginning, middle and end. $n the
beginning opening se%uence criminals mug
shots are used which then turns into the fans
of Marilyn Manson & rebellious and
troublesome teenagers which sets up the
murder story. The story is lin'ed into the
music industry and Marilyn Manson himself
throughout the documentary ending with the
sentencing of each girl for their crime.

documentary shows
the theme of religion
through reference and
images to/of crucifix(s, holy
water and satanic worship.
)amerawor' in Documentary: The documentary
shows clips of an interview with Marilyn Manson
throughout associating to what is going on in the
scenes of the documentary. Marilyn Manson is
shown in a rule of third shot where the lighting is
directly hitting half of his face which gives the
connotation that he has two sides to him.

footage captured before the documentary was
being made. This is things such as when the
three young women were arrested and the nuns
memorial/funeral. The footage used in these
parts of the documentary were recorded whilst
the case was proceeding not after. The
documentary also uses images of the town that
the murder too' place in the time era.

Most vil Documentary
The Most ,vil documentary uses a
voice of god narration throughout. The
narration shows a range of opinions of
each event established.
The documentary loo's over several different themes such
as murder, scientific analysis, psychological elements and
serial 'illers. These themes are presented by the use of
Mise"en"cene which show elements of the brain and how
they are different in a psychological serial 'iller. The
documentary also uses rienactments of the murders with
the use of actors & when spea'ing about a murderers
childhood a boy would be doing the things that the actual
murderer would have been said to do ,g. cutting off dolls
heads.
The documentary uses a linear narrative structure & each story is shown from
the start to the end (childhood and convicted!. .owever, the documentary shows
some elements of circular narrative.
The documentary uses a range of slow and
fast pace editing techni%ues which create
tension when appropriate. The long shots are
mostly used before the murder event is
explained to create tension while the fast pace
editing comes in later when trying to 'noc'
down the 'iller. * and - roll editing is used
which is presented when the narrative voice is
tal'ing about somebodies opinion (a
psychologist or doctor! then the image on the
screen would be a video of the person hard at
wor' etc.
*rchive Material: The documentary uses some
elements of archive material but mostly consists of
reinactments of the events with actors to play each
role. .owever, some of the archive material used are
images of the actual murderers and murder victims
through different stages in their life. The events are
also shown through archive videos & recorded when
the crimes were in motion.
+raphics: The documentary shows a significant
aspect of scientific information which is shown
through brain scans, psychologist notes, computers
and person experiments done. These are all included
in the documentary to help the audience understand
the rationale behind the idea of each murder and how
much the brain is responsible for before the criminal
is plain evil.
The documentary Most ,vil uses lin'ed music to
narration which creates emotion for audience.
The music is used to create tension as the
documentary uses mostly
suspicious/threatening sounds.
