Photomontages
The photomontage process involves cutting or joining two or more photographs
together to create an illusion. This method is usually done nowadays in Photoshop as
the technology makes it easier to put the images together
Hockney Photomontages was first discovered by a man called David Hockney. He is an
English photographer and painter.
Hockney uses the old traditional methods as he uses polaroid cameras to create his
work. There are modern versions of polaroid camera that are out today, so depending
on whether he used a modern polaroid camera, depends on whether his method is
historical or contemporary.
An important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s, he is considered one
of the most influential British artists of the 20th century.
In the early 1980s, Hockney began to produce photo collages, which he called
"joiners",

first using Polaroid prints and subsequently 35mm, commercially-processed
colour prints. Using Polaroid snaps or photo lab-prints of a single subject, Hockney
arranged a patchwork to make a composite image. His work would be found in
galleries, as well as in art books.
Jerry Uelsmann
Jerry Uelsmann is an American photographer, and was the forerunner of
photomontage in the 20th century in America. His work uses both historical and
contemporary methods and his images are all in black and white.
He uses traditional methods such as a dark room to create his pieces, although
nowadays you can use Photoshop which works just as well.
Jerrys photographs have been featured in 100s of galleries across the United
States and also abroad within the past 40 years. His work is very famous so they
will also been since in photography books.
He is the master innovator of the multiple image, or multiple exposure, which is
when you overlap two images together, making one scene look like two or more.
"Philosopher's Desk, "Equivalent and "Floating Boat in Waterfall are three of his
most recognisable images.
Michael Bosanko
Michael Bosanko is Light painting photographer with over 10 years experience in the
field. His photography covers modern and industrial architecture, advanced Light
Graffiti, urban sub-cultures, bands, advertising, events and travel.
Based in South Wales, his work has taken him all over the UK, Europe and the Middle
East.
His methods are quite very traditional as his images are taken in modern day and are
vey contemporary too.
This artist inspires me as I would like to use his technique in making my own images
which is why I chose to research him.
His work would be found in photography books and might be used on posters and
billboards etc.
