Arguments Against Baptism

Baptism and baptize with reference to

water and Jesus are used about 22 times in
the New Testament. Hence, baptism is a
New Testament subject. Baptism is part of
the Great Commission.
Arguments Against Baptism
18: And Jesus came and spake
unto them, saying, All power is
given unto me in heaven and in
earth. 19: Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20: (Matt. 28).

Arguments Against Baptism
15: And he said unto them, Go
ye into all the world, and preach
the gospel to every creature.
16: He that believeth and is
baptized shall be saved; but he
that believeth not shall be
damned (Mark 16).

Arguments Against Baptism
46: And said unto them, Thus it is
written, and thus it behoved Christ
to suffer, and to rise from the dead
the third day: 47: And that
repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in his name
among all nations, beginning at
Jerusalem (Luke 24, cp. Acts 2:
38).
Arguments Against Baptism
The baptism that we are
considering involves water (Acts
8: 36).
Arguments Against Baptism
Baptism not for babies and is not
pouring/sprinkling (Mark 16: 15,
16, Col. 2: 12).

Arguments Against Baptism
To teach water baptism as
involved in salvation is to teach
baptism regeneration (see Titus
3: 5).

Arguments Against Baptism
Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by
the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
Holy Ghost.

Arguments Against Baptism
Baptism is just a symbol of the
new birth; hence, to teach
essentiality is to make a symbol
necessary (cp. Rom. 6).

Arguments Against Baptism
Know ye not, that so many of us as were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his
death? Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised
up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even
so we also should walk in newness of life. For if
we have been planted together in the likeness of
his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection.

Arguments Against Baptism
To make water baptism
necessary is to teach water
salvation (cp. I Peter 3: 21).

Arguments Against Baptism
Which sometime were disobedient, when once
the longsuffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few,
that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like
figure whereunto even baptism doth also now
save us (not the putting away of the filth of the
flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Arguments Against Baptism
To suggest baptism remits sin is
to deny the blood of Jesus (Matt.
26: 28, cp. Acts 2: 38).

Arguments Against Baptism
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Arguments Against Baptism
By including water baptism, you
are teaching salvation by works
(Tit. 3: 5, cp. Tit. 3: 5).

Arguments Against Baptism
Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by
the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
Holy Ghost.
Arguments Against Baptism
One lacks love and compassion
who teaches baptism is necessary
to salvation (John 3: 16).

Arguments Against Baptism
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Arguments Against Baptism
Baptism cannot be presented as
essential because such would
result in unfairness (I Pet. 3: 9).

Arguments Against Baptism
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as
some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.

Arguments Against Baptism
Much of the same rationale used to exclude
baptism can also be used to eliminate belief,
repentance, and confession. We need to
accept simply what is taught in the scriptures
and gladly act upon it (Acts 2: 41).
