WHAT IS A TEAM?
A Team is a number of persons
associated together in work or activity.
Teams consists of:
More than one person
A mixed skill set
Interdependent members
Members who share a common goal
Members who share in accomplishments and
setbacks
CHARACTERISTICS OF EFFECTIVE
TEAM
Team members are involved in the
setting of goals and the objectives of
the team.
Objectives are understood by all
members.
All individuals agree with the objective
set.
Objectives are set and met within
realistic time frames.
Team establishes high standards of
performance for itself, rather than
being pressured to perform.

TEAM
Team members are close in physical
proximity and able to meet regularly.
The appropriate skills are present in the
team.
The appropriate levels of organizational
authority are present within the team.
Roles are clearly defined and do not
overlap.
Team members and their leader know
their assignments.

Roles are understood by all and are
supported.
There is strong, effective leadership
with clearly defined responsibility.
Members and the leaders are accessible
to help each other.
Decisions are made by consensus with
consideration of alternative.
Meetings are efficient and task
improvement oriented

Emphasis is on solving problem.
Members are kept informed.
There is frequent feedback to individual
regarding performance.
Deadlines and milestones are clearly
established and agreed to by the team.

TEAM BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS
When a team is forming, members
cautiously explore the boundaries of
acceptable group behavior.
Groups often begin with members
introducing themselves, polite
conversation includes: information
sharing which helps group members
anticipated each others responses to
group activities.

The group is establishing the basis for a
team structure.
Team behavioral analysis depends on
the stage of formation but for the
purpose of this training, they will be
group together.

stereotyping to categorize others.

important in late phases.
Arguing among members even when
they agree on the real issue.
Defensiveness and competition for
attention, recognition and influence
Establishing unrealistic goals, concern
about excessive work.
Leadership struggle occurs which
involves active participation by all
cliques; typical attempts to resolve
struggles like this in a team include:
voting, compromise and seeking
arbitration from an outside group.
TEAM BEHAVIOR
As the team walk towards maturity there
will be an attempt to achieve harmony by
avoiding conflict.
When conflict arises, it is dealt with as a
mutual problem rather than a win-lose
battle.
More friendliness, confiding in each other,
and sharing of personal problems;
discussing the team dynamics.
Group members give up their attempts to
control and substitute an attitude of active
listening.
Leadership is shared.
EFFECTIVE MEETING
As team members begin to work out
their differences, they now have more
time and energy to spend on trying to
integrate and synchronize different
ideas offered by individual members of
the team.
This is to help achieve the goal and
objective of what makes up the team.
EFFECTIVE MEETING
A team in this phase will often use the
talents of any individual who can
contribute effectively.
Creative suggestion are solicited by the
group in the meeting, listened to,
questioned, responded to and, if
appropriate, acted upon.
The data describes the synergy of an
effective meeting.
SYNERGY
Decisions are made by consensus with
consideration of alternatives.
Meetings are efficient and task
improvement oriented.
Emphasis is on solving problems, and
not blaming the individual responsible
for the problem.
Team reviews past actions as a
learning tool to plan appropriate
strategies for the future.
All members participate in discussion
and meetings
SYNERGY
Minutes of meetings are promptly
distributed to all members of the team.
Members listen well.
There is a frequent feedback to
individuals regarding performance.
All members are kept informed.

TEAM BONDING
Bonding in this sense is a higher form of
relationship that exist in a team.
FEATURES OF TEAM BONDING
There is a team identity or esprit de
corps and pride.
There is a tolerant for conflict, with an
emphasis on resolution.
Conflict is openly discussed, often
resulting in growth or learning.
Members express their ideas fully and
frankly so that everyone has relevant
information and Hidden Agendas are
minimized
FEATURES OF TEAM BONDING
Members enjoy each others company.
Team members support each other.
A comfortable working atmosphere is
developed in which people are alert and
engaged.
Individuals are recognized for the
contribution they make.
The team is flexible, so that members
can influence each other and their
leader.
