What is corporate community
engagement?
• London benchmarking group:
“Long term involvement in community partnership to
address a specific range of social issues chosen by the
organisation to support its long term corporate interests, to
enhance its reputation and to contribute effectively to
communities where it can make a positive impact.”
• A typical CCE program comprises one or more of:
Philanthropy – corporate and employee donations
Volunteering
In-kind donations

The business case

• Licence to operate
• Protect and enhance reputation and brand
• Employee attraction and retention

OIA needs to be able to take proposals to corporates that

will present a compelling business case for them.

Identify corporates that offer a natural fit e.g. banks,

insurance companies, law firms, entrepreneurial start-ups,
companies operating where OIA operates (but this is not
exclusive list)

Opportunities

• Corporate donations
• Transactional giving
• Workplace giving
• In kind

“It’s all about relationships”

E5
Workplace giving

• Employees pledge donations to chosen charity.

Employer deducts pledged amount from their pre
tax pay and sends to charity. Employee obtains
immediate tax deduction. Most attractive when
employer matches.
• Australian Charities Fund facilitates these programs
• Corporates need to “buy in”
• Key is getting OIA onto an employer’s WPG
program. Usually this is employee driven. OIA
needs to identify champions within corporates who
will take up the cause.

6E
Corporate engagement strategies

• In country alignment
• Specific projects – “ Water Hope ”
• Micro challenge
• Breakfast In a Box
• Walkathons
• DRM support - Information Sessions
• Ambassador web site for collateral
• ‘Think creatively”!

Call to action!

Opportunities for Ambassadors

“It’s all about relationships”

1 Provide introductions (preferably to senior people) for promoting

CCE in favour of OIA in:
o Your own organisation
o Another organisation

1 Join the OIA Corporate Engagement Ambassador Team which

works with the DRMs to pursue leads (the Ambassador who
provides the introduction can decide how much involvement they
want after providing the introduction)
