2 Corinthians 9:1-7
Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous
for me to write to you;
2
for I know your willingness, about
which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was
ready a year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the
majority.
3
Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of
you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may
be ready;
4
lest if some Macedonians come with me and find
you unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed
of this confident boasting.
5
Therefore I thought it necessary to
exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare
your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously
promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and
not as a grudging obligation.
6
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7
So
let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly
or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
Introduction
Giving pleases God, for giving is the
very nature of God.
God is the very one who has given the
supreme gift, the Lord Jesus Christ, to
die for our sins.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life.
Who then are the
givers who pleases
God?
There are four kinds of givers who pleases
God
1. The Giver who have a Readiness and
Eagerness to give
God expects Christians to give
Why?
- Because some dear saints of God needed
help.
- Because ministries and the Gospel needed
to be shared to the world.
- Because our commitment to missions is
our greatest testimony to God.
2. Givers who pleases God are not
caught unprepared to give
Why?
1. Christian who is unprepared to give
bring shame to the very name of Christ
- The very purpose for Christs coming
to Earth is to give and give sacrificially
- Christ gave His life to meet the needs
of humanity, so that they might have
life.
2. Givers who pleases God are not
caught unprepared to give
Why?
2. Being prepared show love, not
covetousness
- A covetous life is not caring of people
dying prematurelty from hunger,
disease, from emptiness, loneliness,
worthlessness and sins and evil, etc.
- Covetousness is living extravagant,
spending beyond our needs and
purposes.
While living in Gods love create an avenue
of caring and concern for others for the
glory of God.

Luke 12:15
And He said to them, Take heed and beware
of covetousness, for ones life does not
consist in the abundance of the things he
possesses.

Hebrews 13:5
Let your conduct be without
covetousness; be content with such things as
you have. For He Himself has said, I will
never leave you nor forsake you.
1 Timothy 6:17-19
17
Command those who are rich in this present age
not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but
in the living God, who gives us richly all things to
enjoy.
18
Let them do good, that they be rich in good
works, ready to give, willing to share,
19
storing up
for themselves a good foundation for the time to
come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Acts 20:35
I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this,
that you must support the weak. And remember the
words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, It is more
blessed to give than to receive.
Romans 12:13
distributing to the needs of the saints, given to
hospitality.

Galatians 6:10
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do
good to all, especially to those who are of the
household of faith.

Ephesians 4:28
Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather
let him labor, working with his hands what is
good, that he may have something to give him
who has need.
3. Givers who pleases God give much
and reap much

Note:
When it comes to reaping, the reaper
exactly what they sow.
When a man plants the seed, the same
is returned to him, and the more because
they return to him a full harvest
Proverbs 3:9-10
9
Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
10
So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.

Proverbs 19:17
He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord,
And He will pay back what he has given.

Malachi 3:10
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may
be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says
the Lord of hosts, If I will not open for you the
windows of heaven and pour out for
you such blessing that there will not be
room enough to receive it.
Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you: good
measure, pressed down, shaken together, and
running over will be put into your bosom. For
with the same measure that you use, it will be
measured back to you.

Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for
whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Philippians 4:19
And my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ
Jesus.
4. The givers who pleases God give
deliverately, not grudgingly and
not under compulsion

Note:
God does not accept the gift of a person,
who does not want to give.

God expect the things of the person who
gives
I. The giver must give as he purposes
in his heart

This does not mean that people are not
to be encouraged to give, nor that they
cannot be stirred to give

It only mean that a person is
- To think first the need to give
- To think what he should give
sacrificially
- To make a deliberate decision to give
- To give exactly what he should give
II. The giver must not give grudgingly

- Not out of sorrow (unhappy or
unpleasant state)
- Not with reluctant or regret

Note:
If the giver is going to be mulling over
and over his gifts and regreting that he
has given it, his gift is unacceptable to
God.
III. The giver must not give out of
necessity

A persons gift is not acceptable to God
when he:
- Is forced to give
- Gives because he fears what others
might think
- Gives just to please others
- Gives to keep others from pestering
him
- Gives out of desires for personal honor
and recognition.
IV. The giver must give cheerfully

- If a giver wishes God to accept his gift
- Only a cheerful and joyful giver
pleases God.

2 Corinthians 8:12
For if there is first a willing mind, it
is accepted according to what one
has, and not according to what he does
not have.
