Independent Cinema is about how the film is funded. It would be a low
budget film as they aren't filmed by one of the big six hollywood
companies such as; Columbia Pictures, 20
th
Century Fox, Walt Disney
Pictures/Touchstone Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Paramount
Pictures and Universal studios. Because independent films have a low
budget they are usually advertised in magazines and now on billboards.
Most of the smaller cinemas tend to show these types of films as they
haven't got much advertisement so the bigger cinemas wouldnt show
them as much as many people wouldnt know about the film. The
Inbetweeners film is an example of a Independent film.

The funding used to be from the UK Film Council UKFC. Several
charities also help fund for small films, but they will only help funding
if the film is to suit for the funding.
The Completion Fund have offered to fund up to 50,000 to help the
filmmakers and production companies for the completion of short film
projects that have already been shot but lack the funds to finish.
The importance of film festivals for the filmmakers is that festivals
present a significant way to market their film at a reasonable rate.
There are opportunities to network within the industry. Get feedback
from audiences and judges. Share tips and information on topics from
technical aspects of filming to location hints. Introductions are made
and collaborations born.

The advantages of self-distribution
You have full control and rights over your film, giving you the choice
over where your film is shown.
You don't have to give a cut of the money made from any sales of
your film to a distributor.

For Online Distribution there are now some companies who claim to
make profits from distributing films online in a similar way to
traditional distribution.
A film screening is the displaying of a motion picture or film,
generally referring to a special showing as part of a film's production
and release cycle. To show smaller theatres with very high quality
projection and sound equipment. Special screenings mainly occur
outside normal theatrical showing hours.

By exhibiting independent films you can put it on popular online film
websites for more people to see it such as Netflix's and YouTube. This
will get more people to see it as many people visit these sites and
because it is an independent film you would want more people to
hear about your film.

My film will be an independent film meaning that it a low budget film
which could be produced by Trademark Films.
If it was playing in cinemas it would be played in a smaller cinema and
I couldnt be able to use billboards to advertise, I would advertise my
film in magazines.
