Storyboards are very important when planning your
media product. This is because it gives you an idea
of what you need to film, and it also reminds
directors what shots need to be shot incase any
shot or any scenes are forgotten. Storyboards will
tell us the story/narrative that is going to happen in
the media product.
A storyboard will help me when creating a my
media product as I will be able to understand what
I need to achieve by the end of the media
product.
Shot lists are also very important because it
shows us what shot needs to be shot and
also how much time it will take for each
scene.
It would be very useful for my group to use
a shot list because it will help us clearly
identify what shot types and angles will
need to be taken. From this we will also be
able to roughly time how long it will take us.
Shooting schedules are vital as they keep
the actors and crew members of what is
happening at different points in time during
the day of the filming.
Using a shooting schedule would be crucial
for our production as we will have to keep
our actors and crew members aware of
what is happening on the day of the shoot,
it helps to keep everything more organised
and not confuse anything.
A risk assessment is needed when planning
where to film your media product. A risk
assessment will help to minimise certain
hazards that our location might have on
the day of the filming as we will be aware
of it before hand.
Using a risk assessment would be very
important for us as we want to minimise any
risks that our location has but also be aware
of the risks.
A recce allows us to capture pictures of the
locations we consider to use for the filming
of our media product. A recce shows
images of certain locations.
We will be using a recce as we will want to
explore the different settings we can use for
our productions and we will take pictures to
show the locations we have considered to
use for our main production
Preparing scripts are very important,
especially when you creating short movies,
film trailers or narrative music videos. Scripts
help actors to learn specific lines they may
need to learn for the filming.
We may be using a script for our pre
production, however this will only be used if
our media product is a narrative and not a
performance music video.
Mood boards help during the pre
production stage, as it helps to show the
different types of moods you may be
feeling to use in your media product.
Overall, a mood board allows us to
show/express different moods.
Mind maps will allow us to brainstorm all the
different ideas we may be considering for
our media product.

Questionnaires
Surveys
Focus groups
Websites
Statistical data about target audience
Books/Media Theories
Interviews

Questionnaires are a source of primary
research in which an individual collects
himself/herself. Collecting results through a
questionnaire would be very useful as we
are able to gather first hand data which is
valid.
We will be using a questionnaire to ask our
target audience to ask them what they
would want to see in a music video (e.g.
Performance or narrative)
Surveys are also a form of primary research.
Surveys would also to ask our target
audience what they would want to
specifically see in our media product.
We will be using surveys in our pre
production as we will be able to directly
reach out to our target audience and hear
their views on what they would want to see
in our media product, as it should be able
to fit their needs.
Focus groups are another form of primary
research which involves talking to a group
of people to see whether or not they would
like our ideas if we used those ideas for our
media product.
Websites are a source of secondary
research, which means that the data has
already been collected by someone and it
already exists.
Websites would be important to use during
our pre production as we would be able to
research different music genres and find our
what we need to use to fit those genres.
Our research will consists of looking at
different music videos which we can find on
websites such as YouTube.
We may find statistical data from the
primary research we conducted, this would
help to us identify how much percentage
of our target audience would prefer certain
elements in our music video.
Statistical data could also be a form of
secondary data as this could be data we
find about our target audience from
previous music videos that have been
created in a similar field to ours.
Media theories are a form of secondary
research. One of the media theories we
do want to challenge and go against is
the theory of Male Gaze created by
Laura Mulvey. We would want to
challenge this theory as our target
audience is mainly teenagers, we dont
want to use the stereotype that all pretty
women are used in music videos to
attract men.
