In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of a media product?
My mast head is similar to the blush mast head because it is in the same place and is a
bold colour that is used as part of the colour scheme. Blushs mast head is bigger than
mine which means it is noticed more. For my main image I have used a medium close up
shot of a college student because this image relates to the main cover line. Blush have
also used a medium close up but of a model as this is what relates to their main cover
line. My main cover line is about a student survival guide. This relates directly to the
mast head and the main image. You can see it is the main cover line because it is
underneath the mast head and is bigger than the other cover lines. Blush placed their
cover line in the bottom corner of their magazine which is breaking the codes and
conventions of magazines. Both my magazine and the Blush magazine have stuck to a
two colour, colour scheme. This colour scheme is present throughout the front cover.
Both magazine have got a barcode and a date line placed in the very bottom corner of
the magazine as this is white space and is not important. MY magazine has got the
college logo on it because it was made for another purpose. The blush magazine does not
use another logo as their magazine is made for their company. The magazine has a
different colour scheme and stuff to mine because the magazine is a different genre. My
magazine being a student magazine and Blush being a women's fashion magazine. This
would give the magazine a different target audience. My colour scheme is bright red and
blue because this would relate to my target audience of students. My target audience is a
niche market being only for sixth form students at this college.
Drawn Drafts
My drawn draft of the magazine cover differs slightly with the magazine cover I have made. My
drawn draft uses a female but I couldnt find someone I wanted to photograph for my cover so I
used a male instead. This didnt really matter because the male was also a student at the college.
His clothing doesnt link to the font colour scheme because he is dressed in a fashionable way.
My font is very simple and also childlike because it is for students. The font is also very bright red
and blue and my photographed student is wearing black. The background of the main image is dark
and dull so I brightened it to make it slightly more appealing. The mis en scene for my draft was to
have trees and a sunny day. The mis en scene changed on my actual magazine because of the
weather. The weather was very dull on the day of the photography meaning I couldnt have a
sunny background. I did however use the trees because they gave the magazine a nice feel and
made it look good. I also used bright text colours for the same reason. This differs from blush
magazine because their target audience is grown women who are fashionable so their magazine
cover looks very stylish and uses white and pink tones.

Magazine contents
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of a media product?
My contents page is set out into two columns with a mix of photos and text in both
columns. The Top of the Pops magazine contents page is also set out into columns but
there are three because there is more information used on this contents page. Both
magazines stuck to a colour scheme, mine being red and blue and top of the pops being
pink yellow and white. The colour schemes are very different to one another because my
magazines target audience is 16+ year olds, both male and female whereas the Top of the
Pops magazine is aimed mainly at young, teenage girls. A big difference is that my images
are bordered. My images are bordered because it makes the magazine look neat and is
easy to understand. Images in borders were a code and convention of a student
magazine. Top of the Pops magazine has images that are not in borders because their
images link directly to their cover lines and are layered with text and other borders. Both
magazines include features from the front cover on the contents page. My cover lines
from the front cover are all featured on the contents page with more cover lines included.
The Top of the Pops magazine does this also but they use there front cover and
annotate each cover line and what page it is found on. Mine is not done like this because
I didnt want the page to look too busy.
