INTRODUCTION
oFor ideal educational system, library is center of academic life
oEducation comprises of two essential elements, teachers and students
oLibrary provides valuable support to education
oUniversity as the higher education institution, serve as home of research
oSuccess of research depends upon resources, facilities and services library provide
oEssential for the university to maintain its library
BACKGROUND OF STUDY
oPerpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah.
1. occupies central location at UTM main campus in Skudai
2. officiated by her majesty Sultanah Zanariah on 3
rd
feb 1991
3. 4 storey with 3422 seating capacity
4. collection of nearly half million volume
oWon a number of awards
oThough list of recognition goes on and on, a waste if users were not satisfied/unaware/unclear
about how to find specific and up-to-date info

PROBLEM STATEMENT
oThrough our observation, some students and personnel are unaware of the facilities and
services provided.
oUser lack of information to use the facilities and services.
PURPOSES OF STUDY
oThe study makes an attempt to know various facilities and services which are essential to the
users
oThis research is to survey the awareness of users about facilities and services provided
oResearch report was:
1. to identify the library facilities and services are very essential to the library users
2. to increase the interest of users using the library
3. to recommend essential improvement for facilities and services that are useful for
future purpose.

OBJECTIVES OF STUDY
The objective of this study are:
oTo identify the facilities and services available in Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah (PSZ),
University Technology Malaysia (UTM).
oTo determine the awareness of users about these facilities and services provided.
oTo investigate the librarys facilities and services help toward users.
RESEARCH QUESTION
oWhat are the facilities and services available at the PSZ?
oDo the PSZ users aware about the facilities and services available at PSZ?
oHow the facilities and services provided by the PSZ help the user?
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
oThe findings will help to increase the awareness of facilities and services available so that the
library user can fully utilize the facilities and services based on their needs.
oPSZ library importance and advantage would be publicized.
oPromote the library to the UTMs resident.

SCOPE OF STUDY
oConcentrate on making a survey of library facilities and services
oSurvey will be conducted at Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah (PSZ) in University Technology
Malaysia that have around 14,000 post graduates and 11,000 undergraduates.
oQuestionnaire method was adopted to collect the data
o30 respondents is selected differently
oObservation and interviews methods were also followed to collect further data.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
oThis section discusses the methodology of the research.
oThe main purpose of the research is to study the facilities and services in a library.
oData for this research will be collected through
oQuestionnaire
o Interview
oObservation.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
oThe respondent of the study will involve a total of 30 persons
oDivided into:
o20 students
o5 lecturers
o5 staff
oThe 30 questionnaires will be distributed to library users from different faculties in UTM.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
oThe research will include both primary and secondary sources.
oThe instrument from primary source used to collect the data is questionnaire.
oThe qualitative data for the research comes from interview and observation.
oThree students, a lecturer, and a staff were involved in the interview.
oObservation is another method of collecting data for this research.
