recommended not to start an! kind of project until the correct preparations for that specific project are
completed"

against during the project"
*ctual progress. 0ctual progress of the tasks needs to e regularl! updated in the project"

Compare #aseline with actual progress. *ou should compare the sa&ed aseline %ith the actual progress

Entering Tasks and Sub Tasks
When !ou ha&e identified the majorit! of the tasks in the project$ preferal! in a W7S$ !ou should enter
them into Microsoft Project" -o not %orr! aout putting the tasks in the e+act correct order in the eginning"
It is eas! to re3organi'e them later on" *ou enter a task ! one of the follo%ing %a!s)
=" Click the correct ro% in the #ask >ame column and enter the name of the #ask"
2" Write the name of the #ask in the (ntr! 7ar" Click the correct ro% in the #ask >ame column and press
the green check o+ ne+t t the (ntr! 7ar"
When entering ne% task !ou %ill notice that MS project also enter the -uration for the task %ith a 2uestion
mark directl! after the duration" #his indicates that the duration of the task is (stimated"
Sometimes !ou are going to %ant to insert a task et%een t%o e+isting tasks" *ou do this ! clicking on the
task that !ou %ould like to ha&e elo% the ne% one and choose Insert 3? >e% #ask" or press the Insert3
utton directl! on !our ke!oard"
0fter !ou ha&e entered the major tasks of the project it is time to add the details in terms of Sutasks" When
adding sutasks the upper le&el task ecomes a$ so called$ Summar! #ask" #his is a good %a! of structuring

Project managers should manage the project and not estimate time to completion for the resources$ this
should e done ! the resources them self" (stimate #ime to Completion ((#C) is one the most po%erful
techni2ues that !ou as Project Manager has$ if !ou do it correct !ou %ill ha&e a comprehensi&e picture of if
!ou %ill meet the deadlines of not" 0t the same time as the resources reports the actual progress the! should
also report the (#C for the specific tasks$ the (#C can than e aggregated for the total project and !ou %ill
