The students have been encountering deadline for their

assignments or researches that needs them to access school
library and explore a lot of resources to get better results.
These students are the most popular ones to be targeted with
this scenario since they are the first line in learning.
The library is one of the vital source of information that helps
equip the foundation and knowledge of students. But then
again, it became a concern to the researchers observation that
a lot of students are poorly utilizing the library resources.
As students, the researchers have observed that some students
are doing their assignments, projects, researches, library works
and other school works in the canteen, along the corridors, in
their classrooms and even in the benches/chairs found outside
the classrooms rather than the university library.
It is the researchers responsibility to look into the concerns in
the school that must be addressed, in relation to the presence
of utilizing the school library. These reasons propelled the
researchers to conduct the study.

The study is anchored on George Ritzers

McDonaldization Theory which identifies four
main principles; Predictability, calculability, efficiency,
and control. We can apply these four key concepts to
higher education by defining each in this specific
context. Efficiency can be seen twofold: as the
restructuring of the university toward market-defined
goals of value - both in terms of government
funding, and to the student stakeholder, and of
course in terms of the efficient production line of
graduates to meet the ever-changing needs of capital,
or the challenges of globalization.

Statement of the Problem

This study will aim to determine the factors affecting the
utilization of library resources among the UCLM students. The
findings served as the bases for the proposed action plan.
Specifically, this study will answer the following
questions:
What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

Age;
Gender;
Course;
Year Level;

What are the factors of utilizing the school library?

What are the factors of not utilizing the school library?
Based on the findings of this study, what action plan may be
proposed?

This study utilized a descriptive method to

determine the utilization of the library among
UCLM students. Moreover, it will determine
the factors for utilizing and not utilizing the
library resources among UCLM students.
Descriptive method will be used for gathering
data, while the simple percentage helps for
the treatment.

This study was conducted in University of Cebu,

Lapu-lapu and Mandaue. It is located along A.C.
Cortes Avenue, Mandaue City, Cebu. It is a
privately owned school that comprises several
colleges such as: Marine Education, Computer
Studies, Allied Engineering, Criminology,
Commerce, Business Administration, Customs
Administration, Teacher Education, Hotel and
Restaurant Management and Nursing. The school
has 4 main buildings namely the Old building,
Annex 1, Annex 2 and the New Maritime
building.

This study utilized a purposive-sampling

method to determine the respondents for the
study. The respondents were composed of 35
students who are doing their assignments,
projects, library works and school works in
the canteen, along the corridors, in their
classrooms rather than doing it in the library.
The researcher provided questionnaire for the
respondents to answer independently. The
results from the questionnaire were then
further classified, studied and treated for the
researchers to get accurate results.

This study utilized a researcher-made

questionnaire. Part I presents the
profile of the respondents and Part II
determined the Factors affecting the
utilization of library resources among
UCLM students. The respondents were
instructed to place a check mark to
the corresponding number that
appropriately determined their
utilization of the Library resources and
further assessed their answers by
asking why.

Research Procedure

Gathering of Data. In gathering the data, the

researchers obtained permission from the school
librarian and to the Dean of the College of
Nursing to conduct the study in the college. The
data being collected determined the utilization of
the library resources among nursing students.
The researcher was given the chance, and
gathered significant data needed.

Treatment of Data. The data collected was

analysed utilizing the statistical treatment below.

Simple Percentage. This is used to determine

the respondents profile, space, and inaccessible
wireless connection.

The following terms were defined in the

context which was used in this study.
Library composed of materials for learning
such as books, journals, internet connections
and other tools used by the students as an
aid in learning.
Utilization the respondents degree of
usage if it has been always, often, sometimes,
rarely or never.

Based on the results of the study, feeling of

welcome and wifi connections are the most
important factors why the students utilize the
library.

With the findings that the researchers

identified, the researchers therefore
recommend the following: Wifi connections
among the school library.
