Dangerous

Desire
Synopsis
• Our opening to the thriller focuses on a stalker getting ready to confront
his obsession.
• The stalker, Lucifer, is a ‘rejected stalker’ who works with his victim, Lily.
• Lily turns Lucifer down when he asks her out 4 years previously.
• He has harboured a secret obsessive crush on her ever since.
• The film starts with Lucifer at work- we see him packing up his desk
perfectly showing the character to have OCD and therefore revealing the
obsessiveness of his character. (9 seconds)
• Lily walks passed him unaware and is going about her every day life (this
element of the opening fits in with Todorov’s theory of equilibrium). He
watching her all the time, therefore creating an enigma code, because the
audience questions why is he watching her?
• The camera cuts to Lucifer’ apartment as he walks through the door after
work.
• It shows his typical routine- again high-lighting his OCD.
• We see him going to his room and open his wardrobe door- he pushes
back the clothes and the camera scans over a collage of photos of Lily,
and a calendar in his room.
• The final shot is of the calendar. Lucas crosses off the 26th of November,
but the 27th of November is circled ‘The Day’- again creating an enigma
code as the audience does not know what will happen and it creates
suspense.
Target Audience
• Our film targets males and females who are of
the age of 13 and above. (13+)
• We think it would target a variety of classes.
• We think this because it has a mature plot and
theme, which this audience would be able to
understand and relate to.
Representations
• The key characters in our thriller are the stalker,
Lucas, and the victim, Lily. Lucifer is the
antagonist and Lily is the protagonist.
• In reference to Propp’s character theory, you
could say that Lucas is the villain of the film.
• There is particular why we have chosen the
characters names. Lily means innocence and in
the film she plays an innocent woman. Lucifer is
the fallen angel and the spirit of evil in the bible.
• Other characters in the film are extras at work.
Location
• Our opening will be set in an office and in a
flat. Because all of our locations are inside
it means that our shoot will not de
disrupted because of the weather or light.
• The Stalkers flat will be very basic and will
again show Lucifer OCD, as all the things in
it will look as though they have been
placed with precision.
• We have decided that we are going to set
up the settings in an empty room so that
we can make them look exactually how we
want to make them and we think that
Props and Costume
• Lily’s costume: Normal daily work wear
(to show she’s a normal character in
an everyday environment (she’s part
of normal every day life).
• Lucifer’ costume: A very neat and tidy
look- black clothing (to show he has a
mysterious side).
• Props: pictures, calendar, work papers,
stationary, briefcase
Conventions
• Our film will….
• Create suspense- use of sound,
camera movement and props.
• Include a state of equilibrium.
• It falls into the psychological thriller
sub genre.
• No hybrid elements.
Style and Iconology
• The Camera will be used to focus on the small details of the camera, such as when Lucifer is
packing away his briefcase at the end of the day. By doing this we will reveal details of the
character, in this instance his OCD.
• Throughout the opening we will also use a variety of tracking shots. The first one will be when
Lucifer watches Lily walking past him. The camera work will help create an enigma code as we
wonder why he is watching her. The second tracking shot will be used to scan over the different
pictures that Lucifer has of Lily. This will create tension and make the viewer feel uneasy about what
they are seeing. Although these shots of the pictures are tracking shots we hope to use a number of
tracking shots and blend them together as you scan the photographs, to show the audience the
sheer amount of picture Lucifer has.
• Lucifer’s props will be used to show his OCD, but they will also be used to reveal more about the
story, for example the photographs reveal that he is stalking Lily and the calendar tells us that
something is going to happen the following day.
• We have chosen not to start the opening with any music at all and instead the only noise when he is
in the office will be digetic noises of the noises that you would expect to hear when at an office.
• Music will not be introduced until the tracking shots over the photographs begin, when a classical
sounding music is introduced to the shots. We think that this type of music is suitable as it will show
that the character is a professional and the music will also be suitable for our target audience,
because it is again an older, more professional type of music, then music that would be directed at
teenagers or children. It will also give the scene a more chilling atmosphere.
Institution
• The type of institution that would produce our film would be a
small independent production company.
• One company who we could consider for our movie would be
Coffee Films, as it is a small independent British film
company, which creates a variety of films, which all
experiment with diverse techniques when developing films.
Thriller movies that they have produced include ‘Lucid’, which
is a psychological drama/thriller.
• Another option is Red Film, as it is another independent
British film company. The film have recently produced a
number of critically acclaimed films, picking up awards at the
Cannes and Portobello Film Festivals. The company’s aim is to
create unique and original films.
