What is Al-kufr?
Kufr in Arabic means covering and concealing

something.
Kufr is basically disbelief in any of the articles of
Faith in Islam.
The one who refuses to acknowledge the favours
given to him or her or become ungrateful. In fact, the
opposite of the word shukr, or "gratitude," in Arabic
is none other than kufr.
Kufr al-Itiqad according to Islamic Scholars refers to
major kufr.

Two aspects of disbelief:i ) THE MAJOR DISBELIEF

i i ) THE MINOR DISBELIEF

The major disbelief ( Al-Kufr al-Akbar)

(a)
Kufr-atTakdhib

This is a type of disbelief which

is observed out of denial. This
applies to someone who denies
with by the heart (Takdhib alQalb) and the tongue (Takdib
al-Lisaan).
The Kufr of denying comprises
of two types:
a- Denying the person who
calls to the truth
b-Denying the call

(b)
Kufr-al-Iba'
wat-Takabbur
ma'at-Tasdiq.

This implies rejection and arrogance to

submit to Allah's Commandments after
conviction of their truth.
Almighty Allah says:
"And (remember) when We said to the
angels: 'Prostrate yourself before Adam.'
And they prostrated except Iblis, he
refused and was proud and was one of
the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah)."
(V. 2:34).

(c)
Kufr alShak wa alZhon

This implies doubting or lacking

conviction to the six articles of
Faith.
-Believe in Allah S.W.T.
-Believe in His Angels
-Believe in His Books
-Believe in His Messengers
-Believe in Judgement Day
-Believe in Qada and Qadar.

(d)
Kufr alIraad

Kufr of turning your back

This implies turning away
from truth knowingly or
deviating from obvious
signs which Allah has
revealed.

(e)
Kufr
anNifaq

Nifaq(hypocrisy) is
divided into 2 :
1. Nifaq in the heart
(kufr akbar)
2. Nifaq in deeds and
actions. (kufr soghir)
This implies the hypocrisy
in belief
Example : Abdullah bin
Ubay during the period of
Rasulullah wanted to
destroy Islam and had
create many slanders to
deviate the faith of the
Muslims, but in front of
the Muslims he showed
that he is a true believer

The minor disbelief (Al-Kufr al-Asghar)

1.Kufr Nimat, that is kufr for showing ungratitudeness towards what

Allah had given.
2. Kufr for killing other muslims.
3. Kufr because of making oath to other than Allah.

Differences between Kufr al-Akbar & Kufr al-Asghar
