Article: Discipline

Discipline is not only necessary but also vital for any civilized
society, as a matter of fact, discipline and Nature are synonymous
with each other and whenever anything happens, which defies or
interrupts the usual in Nature, it becomes a calamity, and similarly
life without discipline can become chaotic.
The term discipline means any training intended to develop
moral character or produce a particular pattern of behavior
accepted by afferent institutions and society.
Discipline is a way of life. It is vital in happing ones personality.
According to one school of thought, there are here forms of
discipline i.e. expressionistic, impressionistic and self- discipline.
If-discipline is usually considered to be the best form of discipline
here in the term discipline instead of standing as a rigid code of
conduct obi strictly adhered to, denotes a process of normal
growth and learning, of ways to monitor oneself.
Self discipline is directly related to the concept of freedom and
motivation. If a child is motivated and given the freedom to
choose, discipline becomes a natural way of life.
In modern times, discipline is misunderstood and misinterpreted
by some students as rigid and fixed set of rules enforced by others

Discipline is not a term which is limited to institutions like schools and colleges
only. Neither is it a weapon or tool in the hands of adults to control the younger
generation or in other words seeking unquestionable compliance.
Discipline is neither suppression nor a means to assert ones authority rather it is
intrinsic motivation in a person to control oneself, ones emotion, and desires and
live in a uniform and orderly manner.
That everything in this universe has to follow certain rules, the Sun rises in the
East and sets in the West, come what may, the cycle of seasons also follows a
pattern, Night follows, dusk which follows day and dawn, thus, we humans are also
governed by rules and following the same is another term for discipline.
In schools, discipline can be exercised through the medium of morning assembly,
time table, uniform, break, activities, various competitions and talk shows.
An example of discipline is also the happening of activities in the school premises
in a particular order, right from promptness in reaching the school, wearing the
prescribed uniform, abiding with the school rules, attending classes etc. etc.
When one learns to conform to a particular set of rules he understands the
importance and need to follow a particular pattern in life and how veering away
from them can make life difficult and confusing, All successful people understand
the importance of discipline in their lives and enjoy the fruits of success.
An undisciplined person is prone to temptations and can easily fall prey to a
lifestyle which could lead to his failure and doom. Discipline, thus! is inevitable as it
gives direction to live life in a harmonious, and orderly way.

Article: Computer Literacy

An early argument from for computer literacy was to be a

good citizen. People reasoned that to be a productive
member of society, an individual must know about
computers. This argument also means that little to no
vocational training would be needed to enter the job
market.
They stated, in a similar vein, The argument is similar to
that for language teaching: everyone will need to be
computer literate in the society of the future because
computers will be widely used in all activities. As clich as
the statement is, nothing sums it up better than the future
is today. What once was an extraordinary knowledge is now
a necessary skill in most homes and almost all workplaces.
This qualifies this necessary skill set as a literacy, but is it
truly separate from the classic reading and writing
definition?
Using a computer is almost like driving a car. Some choose
not to learn to drive at all, while most learn just the basics;

Can we consider a person computer literate even if they

regard the computer as a proverbial black box? Some argue
that being able to use the computer for a specific task, such
as e-mail or a specialized program in the workplace, is not
the same as being computer literate; using computers to
meet immediate needs defines only the proficiency level of
the user. Being able to do simple tasks does not mean the
person is computer literate, but simply proficient in those
simple tasks. This leads to the argument that computer
literacy means being able to understand how the computer
works.
On the other hand, the conventional definition of literacy
does not include knowing how a book is printed or what
scientific principles are used to put marks on a writing
surface. Literacy is the learning and mastery of symbols
and how to interpret them. This point of view suggests that
computer literacy is a very basic understanding of how

Computer literacy should be considered a general measurement.

People are deemed literate if they can read and write, but literacy is
rarely qualified in everyday conversation beyond a grade-level
proficiency. With this new definition of computer literacy, a person is
either computer literate or not based on how proficient they are at
some basic computer tasks. Literacy suggests understanding and the
ability to adapt and increase that understanding.
Computer proficiency should describe the skills needed to do whatever
tasks are necessary on the computer. Proficiency is not literacy, but
the ability to do things based on rote memorization or using very little
adaptation. You can, however, use proficiencies to estimate a persons
computer literacy.
What mix of proficiencies can estimate the literacy of a person? A new
schematic is in order. The Computer Proficiencies chart in the
appendix is a sample of what we could do. If a staff member performs
the tasks in a certain proficiency level, their level of computer literacy
can be estimated. Some staff members may be able to do most level 2
tasks, but may be missing some of the proficiencies in level 1; just as
a person may be able to read at a higher level, but still not have a

Level 1 is the baseline proficiency level, and any skills that a staff
member is lacking within this level should be approached and
mastered as soon as possible. A staff member who is only at this
proficiency level is in danger of falling behind as computer technology
and software continue to change.
To be considered computer literate, a person should achieve at least
the second, or desired, level of computer literacy. The second level is
that of a barely computer-literate person, similar to the literacy of
someone with a kindergarten reading level. This level of computer
competency is the minimum level that the majority of the library staff
should rate. Skills that an employee is lacking could be possibly
ignored if their other job skills are high enough.
The third, or target, level is the level of computer proficiency that all
library staff should try to achieve; however, staff members who do not
have these skills should not be penalized. The more proficiencies a
person has, the more literate we can assume they are and the more
able to adapt and learn as computer technology and software change.
Those achieving this level or greater can be of a great benefit to the
library system in which they work.

The Canterville Ghost

Q. 1. How does the writer justify that the place is
haunted?
Answer: The Canterville Ghost is well designed and imaginative
product of a creative mind of Oscar Wilde. The Canterville
Ghost is not just a suspense story of ghost but also it is the
great example to give a universal message through word
woven.
The following are the examples, incidents and action that may
prove that the place has been haunted.
The Ghost has been seen by many a person and there was a
man who can be trusted by one and all witnessed the
appearance of the ghost. He was nothing but the Rector of the
Parish, the Rev. Augustus Dampier. Secondly the grandmother
of Lord canterville felt unconscious when two skeleton hands
were placed on her shoulder. Moreover, Lady Canterville often
had very little sleep at night. Mrs. Umney always found blood
stains on the carpet.
The rankling of the chain heard by Mr. Otis, one who did not
believe in the superstitiousness. The disappearance of Virginia

Q. Oscar Wildes The Canterville Ghost is written in such a

way that the story, in spite of being about a ghost, does not
scare the readers, instead it makes them laugh. Comment.
Answer: The Centerville Ghost does not scare readers, instead it makes them
laugh.
Despite the attempts made by Sir Simon who is the ghost in the story to
appear in the most scary guises, the family refuses to be frightened, and Sir
Simon feels increasingly helpless and humiliated.
The most humorous character in the story is undoubtedly the ghost himself, Sir
Simon, who goes about his duties with theatrical elegance and talent. He
assumes a series of dramatic roles in his failed attempts to impress and terrify
the Otises, making it easy to imagine him as a comical character in a stage
play. The ghost has the ability to change forms, so he taps into his range of
tricks. He takes the role of ghostly apparitions such as a Headless Earl, a
Strangled Babe, the Blood-Sucker of Bexley Moor, Jonas the Graveless,
Suicides Skeleton, and the Corpse-Snatcher of Chertsey Barn, all having
succeeded in horrifying previous castle residents over the centuries. But none
of them works with these Americans. Sir Simon schemes, but even as his
costumes become increasingly ghostly, his antics do nothing to scare his house
guests, and the Otises succeed in failing him every time. He falls victim to trip
wires, pea shooters, butter-slides, and
falling buckets of water. In a particularly comical scene, he is frightened by the
sight of a ghost, rigged up by the mischievous twins.
In this way, The Centerville Ghost, makes the readers laugh all the way
