In a crime/gangster movie, the
characters are normally very well
dressed. We often see them wearing
black suits with white shirts and a tie.
Red is normally brought into the outfit
as well to suggest bloodshed and
danger.
If women are presented, theyre
normally seen wearing flamboyant
dresses and red lipstick.

Lipstick is normally interpreted to be


provocative which sexualises her.
Dark shadows around the eyes are
enhanced to make the gangster appear
more sinister.

Evolution of Gangster Movies


Gangster films have evolved from the 1970s when it was Italian
mafia themed with men dressed smartly to present their riches
whilst today we see young teenagers presented to be wearing
tracksuits and trainers whilst running around their estate. These
are the modern conventions of gangster films.
