propagate their revolutionary ideas by having a
printing press
Candido Iban & Francisco de Castillo - gave 400 pesos
for the printing press
D. Pio Valenzuela - suggested the name of the
newspaper (Kalayaan)
Placed Yokohama as place of publication and Marcelo
H. Del Pilar as editor to mislead the Spanish
authorities

Pahayag (Jacinto's) & Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupang published in the only issue of the Kalayaan
Jacinto's pen names: Pingkian Dimas-Ilaw
Bonifacio's pen name: Agapito Bagumbayan
Valenzuela's pen name: Madlang-Away
Purpose of the Kalayaan - to unite the country's
people to fight for freedom and independence
