INTRODUCTION

Audio spotlight looks like a disc-shaped

loudspeaker, trailing a wire, with a
small laser guide-beam mounted in the
middle

No amount
of phasing,
focusing,
shading,or
other
method can
overcome
this
fundamenta
l limitations.

Audible sound waves

have wavelengths
ranging from few
inches to several feetand sound generally
propagates omni
directional.

Size of the
source
compared to its
wavelength i.e.
a large loud
speaker will be
more directive
than a small
loudspeaker.

LIMITATIONS

For exam ple:-A 16 inch loud speaker panelat1 khz m ounted six
feetoverhead,tw o people w ould have to stand seven feetapart
for 20db isolation w here as ultra sonic technique provides sam e
degree ofisolation standing at m erely 2 feetapart.

Technology
Nonlinear acoustics techniques to create
sound literally in mid air using the non
linear action of ultra sound

Making sound from

ultrasound..
Audio spotlighting exploits the property of non-linearity of
air.
Resulting in an extremely directive, beamlike wide-band
acoustical source.
When inaudible ultrasound pulses are fired into the air, it
spontaneously converts the inaudible ultrasound into
audible sound tones.
This source can be projected about an area much like a
spotlight, and creates an actual spatialized sound .

BLOCK DIAGRAM

Components
Frequency oscillator:-It generates ultrasonic frequency
signals in the range 21khz to 28khz which is required for
the modulation of information signals.
Modulator:-In order to convert the source signal
material into ultrasonic signal a modulation
technique is required which is achieved through a
modulator .In addition ,error correction is needed to
reduce distortion without loss of efficiency.
Audio signal processor:-The audio signal is sent to
electronic signal processor circuit where equalization
and distortion control are performed in order to
produce a good quality sound signal.

Contd
Microcontroller:-A dedicated microcontroller takes
care of the functional management of the system.
Ultrasonic Amplifier:-High efficiency ultrasonic power
amplifier amplifies the frequency modulated wave in
order to match the impedance of the integrated
transducers, so that the output of the emitter will be
more powerful and can covers more distance.
Transducer:- It is capable of producing audibility upto
200m with better clarity of sound. These transducers
are arranged in form of an array called parametric
array in order to propagate the ultrasonic signals
from the emitter and thereby to exploit the
nonlinearity property of air.

Bounce of a second object,

creating an audio image,
which the listener perceives
as the source of sound,called
as Projected Audio.

Direct sound at a specific

target, creating a contained
area of listening space which
is called Direct Audio.

APPLICATIO N S
Museums and galleries-It provides localised

sound for those who wish to hear it and quiet for

every one else. Chicago cultural center, Boston
museum of science, San Diego zoo, museum of
South Australia.

Retail shops:-Provide targeted advertising

at the point of purchase.
Public announcement:-Highly focused
announcement in noisy environment such
as airports, traffic intersections, subways.

Entertainment System:-Home theatre

systems will soon be seen with this
technology.
Automobiles:-Beam alert signals can be
directly from an announcement device in
the dashboard to the driver.

Consumer locations:-Hair sallons and

music stores to pamper the customers.

CO N CLU SIO N
Force the people to rethink their
relationship with sound.
It puts the sound where you want.
A REAL BOON TO THE FUTURE
