Process

THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGINS

Before any match is played the players should be selected for each team.
In IPL the players are selected by an auction process.
The ground rules for the auction are:
16 is the minimum and 27 is the maximum number of players in each squad.
A squad can have a maximum of 9 foreign players.
It is compulsory to have at least 7 Indian players in a squad.
An under 19 player is eligible to play in the IPL if he has played in the first
class or list A cricket.
A team has a budget of 60 crores to spend on the squad. But what they spend
on each player is restrained.
Rs. 12.5 crores for first player
Rs. 9.5 crore for the second player.
Rs. 7.5 crore for the third player.
Rs. 5.5 crore for the fourth player.
Rs. 4 crore for the fifth player.
This breakdown is only for the capped players. For each uncapped player the
franchise will forego Rs. 4 crores.

Apart from the general auction rules in 2014 a new rule called the joker
card was introduced.
According to this rule a team can take a player who was in the same team
in the previous season but not in the same team in the present season by
giving an equal amount of money to which the player was sold in the
present season.
