WHAT IS SAFETY:

Safety is The condition of being safe, freedom

from danger, harm or risk. In simple it is the
technique of avoiding Accident.

Accident is an unplanned and unexpected event

which causes or likely to cause an injury/even death
to human being, animal,damage to equipment or
environment.

Principle of accident prevention

Accident do not just happened, it is caused.

Root Causes of accident

Attitude problems:Lack of discipline

Overconfidence
Carelessness
Abscent-mindedness
Lack of interest

Identified causes of accidents

Improper Maintenance
* Non-observance of Safety Rules.

Measures to avoid such accidents :

Replacement of aged conductors, insulators, brackets

and other line materials is to be ensured.

Standard span and proper stringing and sagging both
for L.T. and H.T. installation is to be maintained.
G.I. wires to be replaced by ACSR conductor.
Periodical Trimming of trees and tree branches.
Regular inspection and supervision during construction,
repair and maintenance work.
Periodical checking /maintenance of tripping
systems(functioning of relay ) for 11 kv O.H. Systems.
Rated fuse in H.T. & L.T. is to be maintained.
Fixing of Cradle Guards under HT lines .
Fixing of L.T. Spacers throughout the LT line.

Non Observance of Safety Rules

The following are the probable reasons for
which such accidents are occurred1. Shutdown and breakdown procedures are not
properly followed / permit to work card not
properly used
2. Ignorance regarding discharging of line /
equipments before starting of maintenance work.
3. Un-willing to use Personal Protective
Equipments(PPE)
4. Execution of work by mentally/physically unfit
person
5. Execution of work by un-licensed/un-trained /
un-authorised person.
6. Failure to maintain safe clearance from adjacent
live line/equipment.
7. Lack of knowledge about electrical system /
layout.
8. Different circuit not properly marked /labeled.

The following measures are to be adopted

1.Training and awareness programs are to be

organized.
2.Shut down and breakdown procedures are to
be followed.
3 Appropriate safety equipments/tools tackles
are to be provided and their uses are to be
ensured.
4. All circuits are to be marked and labeled
accordingly.
5. No unlicensed/unauthorised/mentally &
physically unfit personnel should be allowed
to work in electric supply lines.
6. All work should be carried out under direct
supervision of a competent person who
should be capable of pre -briefing the job.

The following are the remedial measures

to avoid such accident
1.To ensure availability & use of safety belt &

ladder.
2.To ensure the deployment of trained
workmen for doing job in height.
3. No workmen should be allowed to work in
height
in intoxicated/ physically or mentally
unfit condition.
4.Any work above the ground level should be
carried out under the supervision of an
experienced person.
