Building English Writing

Classes will be held in room BAP 204. Classes will last for 50 minu
tes.
All assignments and class work will be done during these class peri
ods. Whatever classwork is not finished in class will be for homew
ork.

3) Online Program

Students will be using Pearsons MywritingLab


Every week students will be required to finish the online work that
is connected to both the lecture class and in class sessions.
Students will have from Monday of each week until Sunday to finis
h each online lesson. I will check to make sure all students have fin
ished on the following Monday.
There is no textbook for this class instead the online program repla
ces it.

Students should keep a copy of the syllabus as the co

urse schedule is attached to it.


All information regarding the course can be found in
the syllabus along with my contact information.
If you lose your syllabus or course schedule you may
find an extra copy on blackboard under your course I

Blackboard
Blackboard is an important tool for students and pro

fessors.
I will always post the dates for homework/assignmen
ts and online course work. (Make sure you check eve
ry week on Monday)
All course handouts will also be posted on blackboar
d under the content heading, but that doesnt mean y
ou should lose the original copy.
All grades will also be posted on blackboard under th
e course evaluation grade center section.

ns.

Requirements
Students need to attend all lecture classes, in class se

ssions and do all required online material.


If you are absent from class because of an illness or a
family emergency, please show me a note or some pr
oof and I will not deduct any marks.
Use of laptops, tablets and smartphones is encourage
d. (Dictionaries and Google are very useful)
All students should have:

1) A file folder to keep all the class handouts


2) A notebook/paper and pencil/pen to take notes.

Attendance
Students must bring their ID card and scan it before eve

ry class. If you do not scan your card the system will aut
omatically count you as absent.
It is not my duty to check and make sure you are attendi
ng class; that is what the online system is for.
If you happen to forget your card, please tell me at the e
nd of class and I will mark it down.
Also students will not be allowed to change class time du
ring the semester. If you cant attend your scheduled cla
ss than you will need proper documentation to prove wh
y.

This course is designed to help you learn the basics of academic writi

ng at a university level.
Students will be required to write in English, so using content from E
nglish websites is also important.
Naver and Daum are useful for dictionaries, however not so useful w
hen it comes to English content.
Try to become more comfortable with using Google.
Also try to use a mobile browser like dolphin or chrome for your sma
rtphone, instead of the naver browser.
Here is a little activity: Pull out your phones and do a quick Google se
arch on how to write an academic paragraph.
Also, to avoid using the localized version of Google, try www.google.c
