JUAN M. ARELLANO

April 25, 1888 December 5, 1960

Known for designing the Manilas Metropolitan Theater with Tomas


Mapua
Sent to the United States to study Architecture as one of the
pensionados
Studied at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Transferred to the
Drexel institute and trained at the Beaux Arts.
Acted as a consultant for the Bureau of Public Works, that overlooked
Manilas first Zoning plan.

Studied at Ateneo in his high school years and sent to America to finish
his studies.
Also, he is one of the first pensionado sent to America
Studied at Cornell University and obtained his Architecture degree.
He first became a draftsman at the Bureau of Public works and later
promoted as the Supervising Architect.
Joined a competition for the design of the new school building initiated by
the La Sallian brothers, He won for his design of the St La Salle Hall.

ANGEL S. NAKPIL

February 20, 1914-November 2, 1980


A Harvard-trained architect.
He served as the City Planning Commissioner of Manila during the
post-war reconstruction years, from 1947 - 1949.
He was a charter member of the United Architects of the Philippines,
which was founded in 1975.
Nephew of the National Artist Juan Nakpil
Graduated from the UST in 1931

FERNANDO H. OCAMPO

August 7, 1897 1984


A filipino Architect and Civil Engineer
Educated at UST Civil Engineering 1919 and University of
Pennsylvania, Bachelor of Architecture 1921
Became an assistant architect in the Bureau of Public Works
Known for designing the Manila Cathedral

ANTONIO M. TOLEDO

One of the first Pensionados


He graduated with the Degree of Architecture at Ohio State in 1911
Being educated in the US East Coast, he was influenced in the
Neoclassical and Beaux Arts styles
He started working for the Bureau of Public Works to work as a
draftsman for William Parsons in 1911
He was promoted to supervising Architect in 1915 and became the
Consulting Architect in 1938 until his retirement in 1954

ANDRES LUNA DE SAN PEDRO

One of the foremost Filipino architects in pre-war Manila and one of


the first practitioners of the modernist and revivalist styles in the
Philippines.
Borned and Trained in Paris, France
Known for Designing the Crystal Arcade

JUAN FELIPE DE JESUS NAKPIL

May 26, 1899 May 7, 1986


National Artist for Architecture and named as the Dean of filipino
Architects
He was one of eight children of the Philippine Revolution veterans Julio
Nakpil and Gregoria de Jess (who married the former after the death
of her first husband Andrs Bonifacio)
He took up Engineering at the University of the Philippines and later, at
the University of Kansaswhere he received his Bachelor's Degree in
Civil Engineering. He then studied Architecture at the Fontainebleau
School of Fine Arts in France

PABLO S. ANTONIO

Born at the turn of the century, National Artist in ArchitecturePablo


S. Antonio pioneered modern Philippine architecture.
He studied architecture in Mapua Institute of Technology and later
transfer to University of London after securing scholarship from Ramon
Arevalo, the engineer in charge in Legislative Building
