4 ZAKAT / FITRAH

The Zakat is an obligatory


tax for those who can
afford it. It is intended
to achieve social justice
in the community. It is
2.5% of the value of ones
wealth and is to be paid
annually. The contribution
of Fitrah is obligatory for
all Muslims and is given
during Ramadan.

Dan dirikanlah kamu akan sembahyang dan keluarkanlah zakat, dan


rukuklah kamu semua bersama-sama orang-orang yang rukuk. QS. 2 : 43
And be steadfast in prayer; practise regular charity; and bow down your
heads with those who bow down (in worship). QS. 2 : 43

a. Zakat Fitrah (Zakat Bodily)
performed during Hari Raya Idul Fitri
b. Zakat Mal (Zakat properties)

Zakat Explanation

During the time of the prophet zakat means religion tax obligation. Like prayer, zakat
is a form of worship. Zakat symbolize social responsibility where an islamic follower
who is wealthy must remember those who are poorer. Zakat determine fix portion
from a Moslem's property for the community prosperity in general and the poor
specifically.

This tax is often collected by government, yet when there is no governmental system
that regulate it, this tax should be performed by the Muslim community on their own.
Beside this, all Moslems are encouraged to give to the poor voluntarily.

Giving money to poor fakir and conducting shalat usually mentioned together in AlQur'an, because both are visible manifestation/proof for someone Islamic faith

Zakat Verses

Surah 2:261 The parable of those who spend their substance in


the way of Allah is that of a grain of corn: it groweth seven ears,
and each ear Hath a hundred grains. Allah giveth manifold
increase to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all and He
knoweth all things.

Surah 2:271 - If ye disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well,

but if ye conceal them, and make them reach those (really) in


need, that is best for you: It will remove from you some of your
(stains of) evil. And Allah is well acquainted with what ye do.

Surah 9:103 - Of their goods, take alms, that so thou


mightest purify and sanctify them; and pray on their behalf.
Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them: And
Allah is One Who heareth and knoweth.

NB: How many zakat which is set by Al Quran? None!

Punishment for those who does not pay Zakat


According to Abu Hurairaih, Rasulullah SAW said,"Whoever granted by Allah wealth
yet does not give out the zakat, on the judgement day, he will be visited by a very
poisonous and scary bald male snake with 2 dots above its eyes, which wrap and
bite his neck and shouts, " I am your wealth, I am your wealth that you accumulated
in the past" (Hadith Bukhari)
In another Hadith, Rasulullah SAW said, "Owner of gold or silver who does not fulfil
his obligation, the gold and silver on the day of judgement will be made into ironing
tool, which is heated up by the fire of hell, and then rubbed to his rub, face and back
for 50 thousand years, until complete the calculation with other people, to see if he
will enter heaven or hell. And owner of cow or goat who does not fulfil his obligation,
then on judgement day, those animals will be trampling and barging on him, as soon
as one finish, another will come to do the same until finish the calculation with
others, to see if he enter heaven or hell." (HR Muslim)

prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn)
self-restraint,-QS. 2 : 183

4. Fasting
Meaning of the one month fasting is to selfrestraint, not eating and drinking, do not
have sexual relationship from the rise of sun
till the set of the sun

Mengapa Orang Islam


Berpuasa
The main function of fasting is to purify a moslem
from inside while Syariah purify him from outside.
With purity as such, he will respond to righteousness
and avoid unrighteous ness and evil. This we can
learn from Sura 2:183.
Hai orang-orang yang beriman, diwajibkan atas kamu berpuasa
sebagaimana diwajibkan atas orang-orang sebelum kamu agar
kamu bertaqwa (menjadi suci).
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to
those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-

Other functions of fasting


Fasting is also considered important on these
matters:
1. Conquer desire (hunger, thirst, lust, etc.)
2. To feel the feeling of hunger
3. Self-restraint from swearing, lying, cheating and
being rough or hurting others.
4. Solidify Islamic Solidarity

Ramadan Special Blessing


Ten last days of Ramadhan month is considered very holy because
there is a remembrance of the night where Muhammad accept the first
revelation from Allah.
On the last day, the coming of crescent month, announce the end of
Ramadhan. On that night, blessing from Allah came down to the
Moslems, and in feeling joy of victory that they have achieved, they start
three days of celebration which is called Idul Fitri, Perayaan Buka Puasa.
To tighten the social ties, Islam put into practice Zakat Fitri, which is
obligation in form of food or money for the poor fakirs, so that they to can
share the joy of Idul Fitri.
