Relation to business

What is ICT?
ICT

(Information

and

Communications

Technology) is the use of technology for the

input, storage, processing and transfer of
data and the output of information.

What is a system?
A system is the way something is done.

Any system involves input, processing and

output.

What is ICT System?

A set-up consisting of hardware, software,
data and the people who use them. It
commonly

includes

communications

technology, such as the Internet.

A system that uses any form of digital
technology to input and process data and
output the information which goes directly to
a human or into another system.

What is ICT System?

All systems involve the three steps of input,
processing and output. ICT systems are those
where the output from the system goes directly to
a human being or into another ICT system.

What is ICT System?

Input -involves capturing or entering the data.

Processing - performing actions on the input data. This

would involve performing calculations, searching, sorting,
arranging,

presenting,

converting,

transferring,

classifying, etc.

Output -these are the results or the information

produced when the data has been processed.

Three main types of ICT

systems
Information

systems

are

focused

on

managing data and information.

Control systems - mainly control machines.
Communications systems - transport data from
one place to another.

Six components of an ICT System

People - needed to supply the data to the ICT
system.
- They are the source of the data.
Data - is the raw material of any IT system and this is
processed by the system to provide the information
which is the output produced by the system.
