INTRODUCTION
Our project is to identify whether the university students

prefer to stay in a boarding or not.

The data was taken in three different ways.

By the results of the research we can come up with an

conclusion.

Finally from the conclusion we recommended a solution.

TERMINOLOGY
HOSTEL : an establishment which provides

inexpensive food and lodging for a specific

group of people, such as students, workers, or
travelers.
METHODOLOGY : a system of methods used in

a particular area of study or activity.

DORMITORY : is a building primarily providing

sleeping and residential quarters for large

numbers of people, often boarding school, 4

OBJECTIVES
To find out the problems

in hostel life
Why

some
students
prefer and why some do
not prefer hostels?

Are

the

students
satisfied
with
the
facilities provided?

LIMITATIONS

The research is limited to certain area to be analyzed (University of

Colombo and SLIIT - Malabe).

so only a few range of hostels and boarding places are available for
research.

PAST RESEARCH
Apart
from
questionnaires,
interviews,
surveys etc., students have undertaken
detailed analysis under the Qualitative and
Quantitative data.
Since this research was not done in a wide
scale, a solid reference could not be gained,
but , some minor sites containing information
about personal thought were obtained.

LITERATURE REVIEW

There are multi factors that affect their study habit in

boardings. Such factors can be due to:

1.Their environment

2.The type ofboardingsthey live in;

3.The people around them
4. The level of support they get.
In this research we studied about the advantages and
disadvantages of living in a dormitory or in a
boardinghouse.
