Overview of SDMT-Background

Service Data Management Toolkit (SDMT) is used to migrate subscriber

data from devices of Huawei and other vendors.

SingleSDBTOOL SDMT, a tool provided in USC 3.1 solution converts data

format and import subscriber data to the in-memory database.

SingleSDBTOOL SDMT integrates the data import function (used in the

Linux operating system) and data format conversion function (used in
the Windows operating system) and provides a more user-friendly client
for operations.

SingleSDBTOOL SDMT adds license control.

Overview of SDMT-Converting Data Format

The SDMT converts subscriber data in the format of other vendors to

subscriber data in Huawei standard format. The tool functions like a
platform. The information for processing the conversion, such as the
mapping between the format of other vendors and Huawei standard
format are exported to the SDMT through configuration files.

The SDMT server runs on the Linux operating system of the OMU board
and the SDMT client runs on the Windows operating system of a
computer connected to the OMU. The SDMT client transfers the original
data and the configuration file to the SDMT server for conversion. After
converting the data format, the SDMT server returns the converted data
to the SDMT client.

Overview of SDMT-Importing Data

The SDMT processes the mapping between data and fields in the database
recorded in the configuration file to import subscriber data and authentication
data in Huawei standard format into the in-memory database of the HLR.

The SDMT server runs on the Linux operating system of the OMU board and the
SDMT client runs on the Windows operating system of a computer connected to
the OMU. The SDMT client transfers the original data and the configuration file
to the SDMT server for data import. After completing the processing, the SDMT
encapsulates the processed data into messages and sends the messages to the
DTL module, which then inserts data in to the in-memory database.

Installation of the SDMT

Installing the SDMT Client

Hardware requirements:

CPU: Inter P4 or advanced

Memory: 512 MB or larger

Disk: 1 GB or larger
Software requirements:

Windows XP/Windows Server 2003/Windows Server 2000

The SDMT client can properly communicate with the SDMT server.
Installation path: Install the SDMT client in a root directory.
Installation method: Compress the SDMT_Client.rar to install the SDMT
client.

Installing the SDMT Server

1. Open the SDMT client and then log in to the OMU.

IP Address: specifies the floating IP address of the OMU.

Port: specifies the port number of the OMU. The default value is 22.

Username: specifies the user name used for logging in to the OMU.

Password: specifies the password used for logging in to the OMU.

2. Specify the parameters to log in to the client.

INSTALL: Install the SDMT server.

UNINSTALL: Uninstall the SDMT
server.
TRANSFORM DATA: Convert data
format.
IMPORT DATA: Import subscriber data.
ABOUT: Query the SDMT version,
license information, and UMID of the
OMU and activate the license.

Uninstallation of the SDMT

Uninstalling the SDMT Server

Click UNINSTALL on the main interface of the SDMT.

to uninstall the SDMT server.

2. After the uninstallation is complete, the system will display a message saying the SDMT
server is successfully uninstalled.

Uninstalling the SDMT Client

To uninstall the SDMT client, delete the tool folder directly.

Obtaining the UMID

To convert data format or import data by using the SDMT, you must apply for the license controlling
the functions. The license of the SDMT is bound with the OMU. Therefore, you must obtain the UMID
of the OMU before applying for the license.

Obtaining the License

The license of the SDMT is generated on the basis of the UMID of the
OMU. After obtaining the by using the UMID of the OMU, submit the
application form to the HQ to apply for the license.

Converting Data Formats

Preparations:

Before converting the format of data stored in the database from

another vendor, obtain the configuration file for the conversion
and copy the transform folder storing the configuration file to
the config directory on the SDMT client.

Obtain the original data file.

1. Click TRANSFORM DATA on the main interface.

2. Specify the parameters in the Transform Configuration dialog
box.

Preparations:

Obtain the configuration file for data import and copy the file
folder to the config directory on the SDMT client.

Obtain the data to be imported.

1. Click IMPORT DATA on the main interface.

2. Specify the parameters in the Connection Configuration dialog
box.

IP Address: specifies the IP address of the PGW
board where the DTL module is configured.
Generally, the DTL module is configured on the
PGW board in slot 1. The IP address of the
Fabric network segment is 172.18.128.8. If the
DTL module is configured on the PGW board in
slot 3, the IP address is 172.18.128.32.
WaitUser: specifies the size of the sliding
window for the message sent by the SDMT. The
value ranges from 4 to 512 and the default value
is 24.

AgentPort: specifies the number of the port used

by the DTL process. The default value is 7790.
HDU Database Version: specifies the version of the host that will import the configuration file.

3. Click NEXT to navigate to the connection configuration page.

Data type: specifies the type of the data. You
can select User Data or Auth Data.
UserID: identifies a subscriber.

1. What are the functions of SingleSDBTOOL SDMT?
SingleSDBTOOL SDMT implements the functions of data format
conversion and data import.
2. What can I do when I fail to log in to the SDMT client after clicking Login?
Check whether the OMU related information is correctly specified and
then check whether the client is properly connected to the OMU.
3. What can I do when I fail to navigate to the corresponding page after I
click TRANSFORM DATA or IMPORT DATA?
If the system displays a message saying Please install it first, install
the SDMT server on the client. If the SDMT has been installed, uninstall
the SDMT server and then install it again. If the system displays a
message saying No valid license for this function, apply for the license
and then activate the license.

4. What are the limitations of the SDMT license?
The SDMT license limits the OMU board to be connected, functions that
can be used, and validity data of the license.
5. Where can I view the dynamic information during execution of the SDMT?
During data import, you can view the dynamic information in the text box
on the data import page. During data format conversion, you can click
Detail on the data format conversion page and then view the dynamic
information in the text box.
6. What do I need to prepare before using the SDMT to import data or
convert the data format.
You must obtain the license for the function and ensure that the
corresponding configuration file and original data are available.

FAQs
7. What can I do when the information displayed shows that the data format
conversion or data import fails?
View the error information displayed in the text box to understand what
the problem is. If the error information is not sufficient to identify the
problem, log in to the OMU, switch to the /opt/sdmt directory to obtain
the operation log, and analyze the logs to identify the problem.
8. Can I directly use the SDMT server without installing the SDMT client?
Yes. Refer to the Guide to Installation and Usage of SingleSDB Tool SDMT
when you directly use the SDMT server without installing the client. If
you install the SDMT server on the SDMT client, install the client in
advance. For details about how to use the SDMT client, see the Guide to
the SDMT Client.
