Free basic and higher education SHOULD be
provided by the government as,
-It leads to economic growth.
-It increases the literacy rate; and
-The abilities and talents of lower
income groups students is not lost.
Free education leads to loss in quality of
education.
To combat this, the government:
-Trains the teacher’s rigorously.
-Evaluates the staff’s weak points.
 Expansion of knowledge and ideas in
business and trade sectors.
 Improvement in work ethics.
 Workers become more efficient and

productive.
 Reduces poverty.
 With an extra year of schooling, the rate of
return of a student increases by 5 to 15%.
 Output per worker increases by 20%.

Example:
In New Zealand between 1995 and 1998, by
spending a larger amount of money on
education, the GDP rose to 6.1 percent from
4.9 percent.
 The provision of free education will
boost the literacy rate
 Strong correlations between illiteracy
and poverty
 Most of the developing nations, the
population lives below US$2 per day.
 Adult literacy rates are below 63%,
and the number of adult illiterates
exceeds 5 million in each country.
 Education can be financed
through loan mechanism.

 Increases opportunity for lower
income groups.
 Helps to break the chain of family
backgrounds.
 Free education curbs the development
of cognitive skills.

 Work environment in public schools not


competitive.
• The above arguments proves that
education is one of the basic necessities
for human beings in these dynamic times.
• Looking at such facts, one is convinced
that providing quality education at
reasonable expenses is one of the
fundamental duties of any government in
the world.
• In this constantly changing world, it is
only quality education that can help
equip individuals to rise to their true
potentials and free the world from evils
like poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, abuse,
and discrimination
