n sublayer of layer 2 (Data Link Layer) in UMTS Protocol Stack. RLC Operate on logical and transport
ls in both the control plane and the user plane . It Provides services to the RRC layer in the control
and the application layer in user plane. Also RLC Supports three data transfer modes:
(Transparent Mode)
(Unacknowledged Mode)
Acknowledged Mode)
mode performs some or all of the functions listed for RLC, depending on the requirements of the mode
see next slide for detailing mode function

wer layer.
e RLC most important parameter
Discard Mode : Defines the behavior for unacknowledged PDUs
Dat : Maximum number of PDU retransmissions before a RLC Reset is triggered
r RST : Reset timer for RLC resets
RST : MaxRST defines the maximum number of RLC RESET PDUs retransmissions
x Window Size : Maximum allowed transmitter/ receiver window size
r Status Prohibit (TSP) : Minimum time between consecutive Status (ACK) reports
r Poll Prohibit : Minimum time between polls

This parameter
specifies the
maximum number
of transmissions of a
RESET PDU. This
parameter is used
only at the TX end of
the AM RLC entity. If
the link
communication
quality is poor
during the reset of
the AM RLC entity,
the TX end
retransmits the
RESET PDU because
NO
it does not receive
the RESET ACK PDU
from the peer end.
When the number of
retransmissions
reaches the
maximum value
(Max_RST), the TX
end reports an
unrecoverable error
to upper layers and
stops retransmitting
the PDU. For details
of this parameter,
refer to the 3GPP TS
25.322.
