Climate Change :

The Green House Effect

By : Sara Rmadi & Mangie Kpaka
What Is Climate Change?
vClimate Change is a long term shift in the statistics of

the weather including its averages .

vThis as we know it is called Global Warming .

vMay occur across the whole Earth.

vOne cause is recurring, often cyclical climate patterns.

v
What is The Greenhouse
vThe
Effect?
Green House Effect is a series of events in which aids

the Earth in becoming warmer .

vWhen the sun shines on earth some of the light stays on

earth & some are pushed back into space .

vGases such as carbon dioxide , & CFCs as well as others

help make the Earth warmer .

vIn the process areas in the Earth like the South & North

Poles to melt , weather patterns change & sea levels rise .

Effective In Becoming Warmer?

Materials
vTwo identical plastic jars/containers

v4 cups cold water

v10 ice cubes

vOne clear plastic bag

v2 Thermometers

vClock/Watch

vSunlight/Lamp
Tools
PROCEDURE :
Take two identical glass jars each containing 2
cups of cold water.
Add 5 ice cubes to each jar.

Wrap one in a plastic bag (this is the greenhouse

glass).
Leave both jars in the sun for one 30 minutes

Measure the temperature of the water in each jar

after every five minutes.

ANALYZING THE EXPERIMENT
vIndependent Variable: The clear plastic

vDependent Variable: The temperature in each

plastic jar & amount of time in the sun.

vConstants: Same amount of ice cubes, water,

thermometer, same types of jars, and the same

amount of time in sunlight

vControl: The jar with the clear plastic around it.

Observations
In
3) the first five minutes , of trial one both containers ’ ice cubes were
visible . The ice cubes in the Non - Greenhouse container are very small .
 In another five minutes , the ice cubes remain visible in both
containers .
After fifteen minutes into the experiment the ice cubes in the
Greenhouse container are medium sized , while in the Non - Greenhouse
container 3 ice cubes were visible .
Five minutes into the second trial the ice cubes remain visible in
both containers .
Ten minutes after , the ice cubes began to stick to one another in the
NGH however no more ice cubes existed in the GH container .
By the end of the second trial , there were 3 ice cubes were visible in
the Non - Greenhouse container while the plastic on the Greenhouse
container became hot .

What Did We Learn?
We learned many things in conducting this experiment .

The experiment was a very fun and unique however , it was

very complicated . Being that neither family would

compromise , we had to work our way into actually

completing the experiment . Every time we made an attempt

a setback occurred . Doing this experiment has taught us

how difficult working with others really is & how much of

an effort needed to make it work . Most importantly, we have

realized how much attention is needed in the matter of climate change. If the

people of world fall asleep so would the world itself.
