What is Competency?
Competency in an underlying
characteristics of a person which enables
them to deliver Superior performance in
a given job, role or situation.
Types of competency
Subject matter knowledge
A teacher should know what
she/he is going to teach in the class.
she/he should be able to convey the
content clearly and preciously.
Communication
skills
Instructional practice
Understands typical and atypical human
development and is familiar with
principles of curriculum and instruction,
including strategies for integrating special
education students in to regular classroom
settings and developing and implementing
individualized educational plans.

Designs and uses various evaluative
procedures to assess student learning.

and uses the results to improve students
learning.
