Development Partners KA-TE FAST

Pioneer in developing and manufacturing of non
man entry robot system for sewer rehabilitation
Engineering and planning of city networks and
modern access networks in Germany
One of the world-leaders in manufacturing of fibre
optic cables and components
Hamburger Stadtentwsserung, one of the big
sewer network operators / owners in Germany

Carrier Robot 350700mm

Cables in a sewer tube

Technologie FAST
This is an example of FAST in a
vitrified clay pipe / diameter
400mm
Installed with 3 empty conduits
11.5mm for fibre optic cables
This sewer tube is located in
Madrid (Spain)

The essential elements of FAST are:

FAST allows very flexible broadband networks in
an existing infrastructure in the access domain
The sewer receives an additional purpose and
with that it generates an income for the city.

FAST Installation Step 1

Analyse and precisely measure
out existing situation in tube.
Write protocol
pipe diameter
location/position of access
pipes
Define optimum cable routing in
the tube to attach fibre optic cable

FAST Installation Step 2

Install internal mounting rings in

the sewer pipe
Every 1.5 m
Rings have clips of empty conduits

FAST Installation Step 3

Pull protective tubing
in sewer-pipe
by Robot
by conventional winch

FAST Installation Step 4

Robot drives through tube
and pushes the conduits
into the clips on the rings
Up to three conduits can
be attached during this
process

FAST Installation Step 5

Pull cables into conduits
11.5 mm
15.5 mm

max. 9 tubes
max. 6 tubes

Cables available (so far)

tube 15.5 mm up to144 fibres
tube 11.5 mm up to144 fibres

mounting ring
with 3 fixing
protective
tubes

Mounting rings and operational

aspects of sewers

After the installation the mounting rings are

loaded with a permanent pushing force by
means of springs.
Even at temperature induced changes of lenght
the mounting rings remain under stress and
close to the wall.

FAST Installation Step 6

Final installation for access
manhole to fibre optic cable
Installation of

bend protector elements

boxes to hold extra cable length
distribution boxes for fibre optic
cable
Manhole components

Manhole examples:

Non-man-entry

Man-entry

Cable reserve box

and splice box

FAST Installation Step 7

Whole cable laying process is
permanently monitored and
documented (Paper, CD, Video)

Robot system
Robotic carriers for different working modules are
available for subsequent diameters of sewer pipes:

Small carrier:

Dia. 200 to Dia. 300

Large carrier:
