Introduction
Tourism is now the largest source of export
earnings well before the automobile, chemical,
food, computers or oil. It involves considerable
investment of capital, generates substantial
revenue and creates important jobs. Thus, for
many countries, it is a vital source of foreign
currency. The tourism sector has an important
place in the Moroccan economy. It is increasingly
seen by senior officials as a strategic sector to
support economic development

2010 Tourism
vision
Vision 2010 aimed to target 10 million
tourists visiting Morocco by 2010, in which 7
million is international tourists.
Vision 2010 also targeted to increase hotel
capacity to 160,000 beds, achieve
investment volume of 8 to 9 billion Euros,
achieve foreign currency receipts to 48
billion Euro, create 600,000 new jobs, raise
the contribution of tourism to its GDP by
8.5% annually and reach 20% by year 2010.
Evaluation of Results
The number of international tourists visiting
Morocco increased from 4.4 in 2001 to almost
9.3 million in 2010, an average annual growth
of 8.7%, well above the world average.
Morocco has thus reached 93% of the target it
set in 2001 as part of Vision 2010, confirming
its ability to change to a sustainable growth
rate.
