INTRODUCTION
Educational Television is shortly known as

EVT.
It is a series of educational television
programs jointly produced by Radio
Television Hong Kong and the Education
Bureau of Hong Kong.
ETV has been an auxiliary means for
teaching the primary and secondary
school curriculum on television since the
early 1970s.

ETV Network is one of the largest
networks of satellite television
channels in India , running seventeen
regional language news and
entertainment channels .
It is based in Hyderabad , India .
ETV programs change with
curriculum from time to time ,
covering a wide spectrum of topics.

HISTORY

ETV began with the primary school


curriculum and developed gradually.
In 1972 , the first program was aimed at
primary three students.
In 1976 , ETV started to cover junior
secondary school.
In 1978 , it began with secondary 1 and
reached secondary 3.
In 2000 , ETV is also began to broadcast
Teacher Resource Programs for teachers.

PROGRAMMES
The programs are closely tied with the
curriculum devised by Hong Kong
Government
Most of programs are in the cantonese
language .
school and biweekly for secondary school .
program topics are changed weekly for
primary .
Social studies for secondary schools was
renamed to personal , social and Humanities
Education.

MEDIA
The recorded programs can be viewed

out the broad caste time frame as


required by the school .
Some programs are distributed in form of
VCDs or interactive multimedia CDROMs to school with the coming of the
internet age ,ETV programs and other
materials can be obtained from ETV
website .

Advantages of
Educational Television

Television experience , which is a combination of


sound and picture received instantaneously on the
TV screen , it comes closer than any other
contrived experience to that of real it.
Television makes it possible for the talents of the
best teachers to be put at the disposal of all
schools.
The TV teacher is more real because of his frequent
visual appearance in the classroom.

LIMITATION OF
EDUCATIONAL
TELEVISION
The learners may engage in day dreaming ,
during the program , this can be overcome by
cautioning the students in advance that a follow
up discussion will be held after the program.
This is absence of learner participation during
the program . It is a one way communication .
No individual contact no further action is
possible other than viewing and listening.

DISADVANTAGES OF
EDUCATIONAL
TELEVISION
The viewer does not understand a particular
point he/she cannot ask questions or ask for
things to be explained.
Some times the program will not cover
irrelevant material.
The facts are too quick and often take for
granted , when one doesnt have to study to

can all be employed in the technique
of teaching by TV.
